Mobile Trauma Massage - in your own safe space!
Trauma massage is a specialized, gentle approach to bodywork designed to help individuals heal from the physical and emotional effects of trauma. Rather than just a specific technique, it is a philosophy that prioritizes safety, consent, and empowerment to help clients release stored tension in the nervous system and body without becoming overwhelmed.
Unlike a standard massage which focuses primarily on muscle relaxation, a trauma-informed approach focuses on:
The Nervous System: It aims to calm the sympathetic nervous system ("fight or flight") and activate the parasympathetic system ("rest and digest").
"Bottom-Up" Processing: It uses physical sensations to heal, rather than focusing only on talking (top-down).
Gentle Techniques: It often uses slower, shallower, or more predictable movements, avoiding overly intense pressure that could trigger a defense mechanism.
Boundaries: It respects that touch can be complex and potentially triggering for survivors of abuse or accidents.
Benefits of Trauma Massage:
Reduces Chronic Pain/Tension: Alleviates physical pain, muscle knots, and holding patterns that have developed as a survival response.
Improves Mental Health: Reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD by lowering cortisol (stress hormone) levels.
Reconnects Mind and Body: Helps survivors, particularly those who have felt disconnected from their bodies (dissociation), to feel present and safe in their own skin.
Allows Emotional Release: Provides a safe space where stored emotions can surface and be processed, such as crying, trembling, or feeling heat, which are seen as signs of release.
Who Can Benefit?
Survivors of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.
Individuals with PTSD or CPTSD.
People with chronic pain or high levels of stress/anxiety.
