Delayed cord clamping has so many benefits!

Those extra moments of your baby being attached to their cord allow the placenta to finish its job, giving your baby more blood volume, higher iron stores and its said to even support your baby as they start to use their lungs!

Pop it down on your birth preferences or if you love diving into the evidence, midwife and researcher Sara Wickham has so great info on her website (about this and loads of other topics btw!)

The sceptics... (often birth partners!) and people who often arent sure that hypnobirthing is for them.

Why?

Because I was one too.. I just didn't think it would be for me.

Ohh.. how wrong I was.

I've worked with hundreds of people and during our first session... I cant even tell you how many people have said to me..

"I didnt think it would be for us."

"I thought we were going to do chanting."

"I was worried about what you would ask us to do."

Or

"I cant believe how logical and science based it is."

"I can already see what a difference I can make trhough supporting my partner."

I get it.. the name hypnobirthing puts people off, but hand on heart one things for sure..

Medical anxiety was a huge part of my life before my 1st pregnancy...

I can't exactly pin point where or when it started... but I do know that I'd felt it my entire life.

I think it probably became worse when I went for my first blood test at 15... I fainted and it totally freaked me out.

Walking into the dentist and struggling to calm myself as I felt another panic attack rise in my chest..

For years, it was a bit of an ongoing joke. 'How are you going to have a baby if you cant manage with this?'

Those words alone were enough... I cant do this, I wont be able to do it. What if I loose complete control.

Hundreds of my clients have felt that same anxiety about birth, not knowing where to even start when it comes to birth preparation.

That's why I teach and support families the way that I do - because I've been there, I get it.

With tried and tested approaches and tasks throughout the course - we can start to work through some of it together.

To help you feel that little bit more in control, to help you to build some confidence to truly share what you need from those around you.

This is one your going to want to keep! 🍋

When It comes to aromatherapy in pregnancy, one of the things I talk about in my classes is how using a scent frequently throughout your pregnancy will really help you to create an association of something for birth.

Perhaps calm

Or determination

Or a feeling of letting go

Use them every day whilst focusing on preparing doe your baby, use them when you listen to relaxations or practice breathing techniques..

Scent is so powerful.. with both of my baby's births it really was one of my biggest physical anchors as I'd worked so hard to create a positive association whenever I smelt them 🥰

Here I share a few oils and their benefits in pregnancy, as ever - do always check with a professional if your not sure ❤️

If you were going to do a jigsaw - you'd want all the pieces.

I've been teaching for nearly 7 years - and I still can't believe how many misconceptions about hypnobirthing there are.

I'm not kidding - so many people have heard about the 'relaxation' bit or the 'breathing' bit and 100% YES... these bits are important.

But there's so much more to it than that...

I've worked with hundreds of families, and they all say the same...

We are at a moment in time when it's more important than ever to feel confident in advocating for ourselves.

To understand our rights.

To know that we are ALWAYS the final decision-makers when it comes to what happens to our bodies.

Chatting through what feels right for us, no matter what, if circumstances change, is one of the topics I'm most passionate about..

Its just... those relaxation techniques, those breathing techniques can make all the difference too.

I've been there... anxious about birth, finding it hard to overcome than during pregnancy and these techniques... by gosh they can be powerful.

They can build confidence and control in a way that I can't begin to explain.

But like any jigsaw... we want all the pieces.

Like a handbag on a night out... we might not need everything in it, but we are glad we've got it.

✨ Why its worth doing a birth plan ✨

There’s so much conflicting advice out there, but understanding your options in labour helps you and anyone supporting you to feel more confident and in control!

Flexible birth preferences mean you’re ready for every path your birth might take — focusing on what you’d love and what you’d want if things change.

You might include things like:

• How you want pain relief or monitoring to be offered
• Whether your want an advocate
• Keeping the room dark and calm
• Immediate skin‑to‑skin, however baby arrives
• Letting caregivers know you’ve practised hypnobirthing

Anything that really matters to you really!

Writing it down means you can stay focused on you and your baby once labour begins 💛

Today, I thought I'd share some of the words past clients have shared about how hypnobirthing helped them feel calmer, more confident and genuinely prepared for birth.

What I love most is that hypnobirthing works differently for everyone.

For some, it’s the mindset shift.
For others, it’s the practical tools.
For many, it’s finally feeling informed, in control and able to trust themselves.

There’s no “one way” to use hypnobirthing and it supports you regardless of where you are and helps you feel more grounded, capable and supported.

Kind language isn’t fluffy — it’s honestly one of the biggest game‑changers.

When we speak to ourselves with kindness, especially through pregnancy and birth, we’re not just being “nice”… we’re actually building confidence from the inside out.

Think about it like going into a job interview. You wouldn’t walk in telling yourself you’re rubbish. You’d hype yourself up, remind yourself you’re capable, give yourself a bit of a boost.
So why wouldn’t we do the same during pregnancy and birth — one of the biggest transitions we’ll ever go through?

I'll be honest: when I first started doing this, I didn’t think it would work. It felt awkward, a bit cringe, and definitely not “me.”

But I stuck with it… and honestly, it changed everything - my confidence grew not only in my ability to birth but it helped me to remind myself that I can speak out for what's right for me.

💛 I felt more grounded
💛 I trusted myself more
💛 I stopped spiralling over every tiny thing
💛 I actually started believing I could do this

Kind language isn’t soft. It’s strength.
It’s self‑trust.
It’s confidence you build from the inside.

How did The Happy Little Nest begin?

It’s been a while since I’ve properly introduced myself on here — and shared the real reasons I fell in love with hypnobirthing in the first place.

Like so many others, my journey into this work began with my own pregnancies and births.

Across both experiences, I went through a huge transformation. It changed the way I viewed birth, but it also changed the way I saw myself — and the way I support other people.

So here it is… my hypnobirthing story in full.

And just to be clear, I’ll never claim that hypnobirthing is a magic wand that makes every worry disappear. But I have seen it support people’s mental health in the most incredible ways.

That’s what I love about it — it works differently for everyone.

If you’re looking for in‑person hypnobirthing groups in Leeds or across Yorkshire, or a supportive space to prepare for the fourth trimester, I’d love to welcome you in.
