Today, the Button House community proudly joined people everywhere in supporting World Mental Health Day and , a day to celebrate positivity, raise awareness, and remind everyone that looking after our mental wellbeing is just as important as caring for our physical health. 💬✨

From yellow ties to yellow bows, and even a few yellow flowers brightening our spaces 🌼💛 it’s been a cheerful reminder of hope, support, and connection.

🎨🧶 Craft & Chat at Button House + Special Community Event This Saturday! 🧵☕

Love being creative and meeting friendly, like-minded people? Come and join our Craft & Chat group at Button House, held on the first Tuesday of every month from 10am to 12:30pm — just £3.50 per session.

Whether you’re into knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, painting, or jewellery making, everyone is welcome — from complete beginners to seasoned crafters. 💕 Bring your own project, share tips and tricks, and enjoy a relaxing morning of creativity, conversation, and laughter.

We’ve loved seeing the variety of crafts recently — from beautiful sewing projects to comfort stones and crochet — it’s wonderful to see everyone’s creativity shine! 🌟

Many of you may already know Carole Baker, a talented artist from Carshalton, well known for her vibrant, hand-knitted and crocheted post box toppers that brighten up the community. Her cheerful “Great Woolly Hat Trail” in 2023 brought smiles all over South London, with colourful, character-filled toppers that truly spread joy.

This year, Carole created a special Halloween-themed topper for our very own Button House letterbox — and it’s absolutely fantastic! 🎃🧶
Thank you, Carole, for bringing so much colour and creativity to our community! ❤️

🔥 Special Community Event – This Saturday, 11th October!

Join us at Button House for a special “Create for the Community” drop-in session to help support those in need this winter. Let’s come together to craft warm items — hats, scarves, blankets, gloves — for vulnerable people in our local area. ❤️

🧣 Date: Saturday 11th October 2025
🕙 Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm
📍 Location: Button House, 6 Spinning Wheel Way, Hackbridge (opposite Lidl, on the 151 and 127 bus routes, and a short walk from Hackbridge train station)

You can drop by anytime during the day to make something small or bring along finished warm items to add to our donation pile. We have some donated yarn available, but feel free to bring your own materials and patterns.

☕ Tea, coffee, and nibbles will be provided — if you’re staying all day, please bring a packed lunch.

🏆☕ Winners at Button House! 🎉💚

What a wonderful day we had coming together as a community for our Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning and we’re so proud to share that we raised an incredible £501.23! ✨👏

The fun didn’t stop with tea and cake… 🍰 Fozia counted all 409 sweets in our jar challenge, and with guesses so close, we crowned two winners from Hackbridge Primary School : Angus (405) and Riley Rose (413). 🎉🙌

Meanwhile, our local resident Derek struck it lucky as the winner of a brand-new coffee machine, generously donated by our friends at Patricia Shepherd Letting & Management 2024 ☕💛

And because one celebration is never enough at Button House… we also marked Carlo’s birthday in true style — with not one, but two cakes! 🎂🎂

Thank you to everyone who joined, donated, and supported this special day. Events like these remind us that at Button House, life is all about community, connection, and celebrating the good things together. 🌟

🌱🌸 The 14th Wallington Beaver Scouts are back at Button House! 🌸🌱

Yesterday we welcomed 20 enthusiastic scouts who came ready with their footstools to join forces with our Gardening Club. Together, they planted over 300 bulbs of different flowers – what a fantastic effort! 👏💪

Our wonderful Gardening Club members Rick, Jean, Heliana and Jean were on hand to guide the young gardeners and share their expertise. A big thank you also goes to Andy Copps for helping us organise this special day. 🙏✨

We’ve attached some brilliant photos of the scouts hard at work in action, as well as a lovely group picture in our Residents’ Garden (including one with the funny faces that gave us all a good laugh! 😄📸).

🌷 One of the real joys of Button House is our beautiful gardens. Many people think that moving into a retirement community means giving up gardening – but here it’s quite the opposite! With our large raised planters, several of our residents have actually taken up gardening for the first time since moving in, making it easier than ever to enjoy this rewarding hobby. 🌼

🇲🇽✨ What a Night at Slate & Grain! ✨🇲🇽

Our Mexican Night didn’t disappoint! Guests were greeted with refreshing Mexican Mimosas 🍹, treated to live music 🎶, and of course enjoyed an evening full of laughter and a delicious three-course Mexican feast 🌯🌮.

Our residents truly stood up to the occasion with some fabulous outfits – just take a look at the pictures attached 📸. Sombreros, bright colours, and huge smiles all around! 😄🎩

🎤 The absolute highlight of the evening? Our very own David Jones, one of our residents, performed the classic 1939 hit “South of the Border (Down Mexico Way)” – “She was a pretty picture in old Spanish lace…” 🎶. The whole room was in stitches and loved every moment! 💃🕺

A huge thank you to Chef Harish and the amazing Slate & Grain team for delivering yet another unforgettable night. Here’s to the next one! 🥂

☕🍰 Macmillan Coffee Morning at Button House! 🍰☕

What a fantastic day we had hosting our Macmillan Coffee Morning in partnership with Patricia Shepherd Letting & Management 💚

There was fun, laughter, and plenty of coffee and cake to go around, all in support of Macmillan Cancer Support . 🎉

Residents, friends, and neighbours joined us to enjoy the treats, and we even took to the streets with our cake stall to spread the joy (and sugar!) even further. 🧁✨

A big highlight was having the children from Hackbridge Primary School take part in our “Guess the Greens in the Jar” competition, their excitement (and very serious guesses!) made the day even more special. 🎲🍬💛

Thank you to everyone who came along, donated, or supported us. Together, we raised funds for such an important cause while celebrating the best of community spirit.
