Inside Out is not just a Disney movie, it's actually got some truth in it... 🧠

We're all made up of tiny little parts that come forward to take the narrative, to keep us safe.

What I mean by that is...

You might have a people-pleasing part, a wounded part, or an inner critic part - to name a few.

My somatic trauma work involves something called "parts processing", which is basically where you relax, close the eyes, and we ask the part to come forward in the minds eye.

Believe it or not, some clients can actually SEE the part. 👀

It taps into the sub-conscious, allowing you to get to know the part, their age, how old they think you are, and why they do what they do.

Parts Work is a key that opens the door to understanding, and harmonising these internal parts of you to resolve internal conflict, reduce self-criticism, and heal trauma. ❤️‍🩹

It's honestly one of the most interesting activities, and the best way to describe it is like a reunion within yourself. ✨

I could talk about parts all day, so if you'd like to know more about it, drop me a message or a comment. 🫶🏻

PTSD and C-PTSD don’t always show up straight away. 👤

Sometimes, after a traumatic experience, your nervous system feels shaken for a while, and things might settle over the following weeks.

But sometimes…they don’t.

If trauma responses linger for longer than a month and start affecting your day-to-day, it might be a sign of PTSD or Complex PTSD (C-PTSD).

I often hear people say:

"But I was fine for years… so why is this affecting me now?"

And that’s such an important question.

Around 15% of people experience delayed trauma responses, where symptoms don’t appear until months or even years later.

It can feel confusing, scary, or isolating, especially if the connection to past experiences isn’t obvious.

Trauma doesn’t always show up the same way. Some days it feels manageable, other days it returns stronger, often during stress, big life changes, or reminders that stir the nervous system.

Others may live with symptoms more consistently.

There isn’t one “right” way trauma shows up.

Two people can go through similar experiences and have very different responses, because trauma lives not just in memory, but in the body and nervous system.

From a somatic and trauma-informed perspective, understanding what’s happening is power.

Recognising the patterns of PTSD or C-PTSD can help you approach healing with compassion and the right support.

In my sessions, trauma therapy doesn’t mean reliving everything.

We move gently, tuning into the body, building safety, and giving the nervous system space to release what it’s been holding.

It’s about reconnecting with yourself, bit by bit, with curiosity and care. 🤍✨

If you’ve ever wondered whether trauma might be affecting you, you’re not alone. Healing is possible, and support is here. 🌸

Honestly, I've lost a few clients, which is really scary.

But it's not because I'm bad at what I do.

As a somatic trauma therapist, it fills me with so much joy to know that the people who've been coming to see me are healing ❤️‍🩹

So I've not been "losing" clients,

They're healing, and they don't need me as much. 💫

I couldn't ask for anything more. 🤍

Why do relationships feel so hard when you have cPTSD? 😔

Complex PTSD is relational trauma, which can deeply impact your emotions, nervous system, and safety.

This can make loving relationships feel confusing, difficult, or overwhelming to someone with cPTSD.

cPTSD can show up in relationships as:

❤️‍🩹 Hypervigilance and trust issues
❤️‍🩹 Emotional triggers
❤️‍🩹 Communication challenges
❤️‍🩹 Attachment wounds
❤️‍🩹 Lack of self-worth
❤️‍🩹 Impacts on vulnerability and intimacy
❤️‍🩹 Fear of rejection or abandonment
❤️‍🩹 Relational triggers

You are not broken.
And you're not alone.

From a somatic and trauma-informed perspective, understanding what’s happening is power.

Recognising the patterns of C-PTSD can help you approach healing with compassion and the right support.

I read a LOT of books. 📚
If you wanna read the self help books but never get around to it, this one is for you. ❣️

Dr. Gabor Maté is a Canadian physician and author, who has worked in family practices and specialises in childhood development and trauma, including long-term effects on physical and mental health, such as autoimmune diseases, cancer, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and addiction.

I've loved reading his books, so you don't have to.

These are my 5 key takeaways:

1. Addiction is a coping mechanism for pain.

2. Connection heals trauma.

3. Compassion works better than shame.

4. Healing happens through authenticity and feeling safe enough to bring the authentic self forward.

5. Trauma lives in the body.

As a trauma therapist, I agree with his points, and bring these beliefs into every session with my clients. ❤️‍🩹

Your negative thoughts are not the villan you think...❤️‍🩹

Negative thoughts are actually ways for our mind to try and keep us safe.

I know that sounds backwards, but hear me out.

If my nervous system learnt throughout development that it was better to 'stay small' to stay safe, then using a negative thought pattern to tell myself 'I am a burden' is a way to ensure my safety.

Thus, the root of the negative thoughts.

So, I get to know your negative thoughts to meet them with an understanding and create safety for your nervous system. ✨

Many of the patterns we struggle with - people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional triggers - can come from parts of ourselves that once had to be hidden.

This is often called shadow work. 🌙

From a somatic, trauma-informed perspective, these “shadow” parts aren’t something to eliminate.

They’re parts of you that adapted to stay safe in earlier environments.

The challenge is that when these parts stay buried, they can continue shaping how we feel, react, and relate to others - often without us realising why.

Somatic shadow work helps bring awareness to these patterns gently and safely, allowing the nervous system to reconnect with parts of yourself that were pushed aside.

Healing doesn’t mean becoming someone new.

It means reclaiming the parts of yourself that were never allowed to exist. 🤍

The three stages of healing your nervous system 🌱

1. Establish Safety 🛟

Stabilising symptioms
Establishing self care
Securing safety

2. Grieving and Processing (softly, slowly) ❤️‍🩹

Reconstructing the trauma
Processing traumatic memory

3. Integration and Reconnection 🤲🏼

Reconciliation with self
Reconnection with self
Resolving the trauma
Self expression

Somatic trauma-informed therapy doesn’t have to mean reliving everything. In my work, we move gently, helping the nervous system build safety, regulation, and capacity so that the body can begin to release what it’s been holding. 🤍
