Samaritans Awareness Day (24th July)

Samaritans Awareness Day is on 24th July, so we’re raising awareness throughout July, to let people know that they can talk to us, day or night, 24/7.

On Samaritans Awareness Day, remember you are never alone. Whether you’re struggling or supporting someone who is, help is always just a call away. Let’s break the stigma around mental health and start real conversations.

Samaritans Awareness Day is on 24 July because we’re here to listen 24/7. Help us raise awareness and funds to prevent su***de today. Because tomorrow could be too late.

F R I E N D S & F A M I L Y - JUNE 2025 ⭐️

In June 2025, we received 129 patient feedback responses — and we’re so proud to share that 97% said they would recommend Lambgates Surgery. 💙

Here’s just a small selection of the kind words we received:

🌟 You have an excellent doctors practice and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Hilary was brilliant at taking my bloods, I didn't even feel the needle.

🌟Always get quick responses following completion of a triage and appointments booked with the appropriate person. Have to give a shout out to the nurses at the practice who all do a brilliant job.

🌟Always answer the online forms pretty much straightaway . Appointments nearly always same day . Staff are all lovely and very professional.

🌟It was my first experience of Lambgates Surgery and I was treated with respect and looked after well and all staff were professional.

🌟The doctor was very considerate and took a lot of time to investigate the issue. He promptly referred me to further services the same day.

🙏 A big thank you to our amazing team and our wonderful patients for your trust and kind words. We’re here for you — always.

Thank you to all our incredible staff across the NHS for your continued hard work.

C H I L D H O O D I M M U N I S A T I O N S - Changes from July 2025

If your child is born on or after 1 July 2024, here’s what you need to know:

💉 At 8 Weeks:
No Changes - Standard 6-in-1 (DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB), MenB, and rotavirus vaccines remain the same.

💉 At 12 weeks:
➡️ The second MenB vaccine will now be given at 12 weeks (instead of 16) to protect babies earlier.

💉 At 16 weeks:
➡️ The pneumococcal vaccine (PCV13) will now be given at 16 weeks (instead of 12).

🎂 Around 1 year:
❌ The Hib/MenC vaccine is being removed.
✅ Babies will still get their MMR, MenB booster, and PCV booster.

🗓️ New appointment at 18 months (starting Jan 2026):
✅ A 4th dose of the 6-in-1 vaccine will be added.
✅ The 2nd MMR dose moves earlier (from age 3y 4m to 18 months).

👶 Babies who need extra Hep B protection:
✔️ No more separate Hep B jab at 1 year.
✔️ It’ll now be included at the 18-month visit.
✔️ Blood tests for Hep B can happen between 12–18 months.

📘 Check your baby’s Red Book.
💬 Speak to your GP or health visitor if you’re unsure which schedule your baby follows.

✅ Why these changes?
- Earlier protection for serious illnesses like meningitis B (by administering doses sooner).
- The discontinuation of Menitorix prompted schedule rebalancing.
- Removing Hib/MenC at 1 year is safe due to strong adolescent coverage of MenC.
-Shifting MMR2 to 18 months encourages earlier immunity amid rising measles cases.

👩‍⚕️ What this means for you as a parent
If your child is born on or after 1 July 2024:

Expect the MenB vaccine at 12 weeks instead of 16 weeks.
Expect PCV13 at 16 weeks.
No Hib/MenC jab at 1 year.
A new 18-month clinic appointment for a 4‑in‑1 booster and MMR2.

If your child is born before 1 July 2024, they follow the existing schedule without these adjustments.

📌 What to do next
Keep your child’s Red Book updated and check upcoming appointments.

GP clinics and health visitors will be informed—expect reminders.

If your child is behind on vaccinations - please contact reception.

📢 Update on Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for Weight Loss in Derby & Derbyshire

The local NHS is aiming for this drug to be available to those eligible later in the year but is paused whilst we set up local clinics for Derby and Derbyshire.

We are working across the local NHS to put in place community-based clinics to meet areas of greatest need. This is being organised by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) which has the responsibility.

⚠️ Please do not contact your GP about tirzepatide at this time. It is not yet available in Derby and Derbyshire.

What is tirzepatide (Mounjaro)

Tirzepatide, also known as Mounjaro®, mimics gut hormones released by the body after eating, telling the brain you are full and slowing down the time it takes the stomach to empty.

👥 Who will be eligible?
There are clear rules about which patients can get tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) from primary care.
Eligible groups will be phased, the initial priority criteria are as follows. You must have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 plus* and four or more of the following diagnosed health conditions:
Type 2 diabetes
High blood pressure
Heart disease
Obstructive sleep apnoea
Abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)
📌 (Lower BMI thresholds apply to some ethnic groups)

🏥 Access will be phased to protect NHS services and focus on those most at risk.

ℹ️ More info will be shared by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) once clinics are ready. Stay tuned to this page for updates.
