We know that many of you will be feeling unsettled, sad, and anxious following the invasion of Ukraine – and that some of you may have family and friends directly affected by the events over the last week.

If you find yourself needing extra support around your mental health, please reach out to your support networks. You are not alone. And you don’t need to suffer alone.

If you are struggling with your mental health right now and your challenges are unrelated to world events, please don’t hesitate to seek support. Your feelings and experiences are still valid even when others are greatly suffering.

Below is a list of services that you might find useful if you are experiencing any challenges during this time:

• If you think that you may act on suicidal feelings or you have seriously harmed yourself, call: 999 for an ambulance or go straight to A&E

• If you need medical help or advice fast but it is not an emergency, call: 111 or contact your GP to make an appointment

• Sussex Mental Healthline: A 24/7 telephone service offering support and information to anyone experiencing mental health problems including stress, anxiety and depression. Our Wellbeing Centres are always looking for ways to support the mental health and wellbeing of people in our community.

Recently, Southdown Hastings/St Leonards Wellbeing Centre shared this lovely selection of images from RSPCA Mallydams Wood Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre

Some of our clients have been attending Mallydams once a month to spend time in the woodland. They've been looking at and learning about wildlife and have also been developing their creative and practical skills, making willow stars and leaf collages .

One of our Recovery Workers said, "Its very beautiful out there , it brings a sense of calm to everyone who attends."

Tell us what being in nature brings you in the comments below!

Slow Cooker initiative rolls out across Eastbourne

This month, slow cookers have been delivered to some of the most vulnerable households in Eastbourne thanks to a collaboration of local organisations. Organised by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Helen Burton, the slow cookers were funded by Feeding Britain, provided by local business DB Domestics at a greatly discounted price and distributed by Foodbank and Eastbourne Borough Council’s Neighbourhood First Service.

Helen said “my dual roles as CEO of Volunteers Network and Eastbourne Borough Councillor means I can see what is needed and sometimes wear both hats to get the job done. Food poverty is a huge problem nationally, and the energy crisis along with the cost-of-living crisis is only making matters worse. Slow cookers are a great way of cooking cost effectively whilst also saving energy, so I looked for funding that could make this project happen. The support of DB Domestics meant we could roll out the project to even more households, they have been amazing.

We have also been given permission by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to reproduce their slow cooker recipe booklet which has loads of energy saving tips in it as well as some great recipes, and we will also be giving these out from Langney Community Centre”.

Hi Everyone, Please find attached the Online timetable for the Wellbeing Centres for the 1st to 17th Dec 2021

09/12/2021

We are pleased to announce that our Staying Well Space service buildings have reopened in all three locations - Brighton, Eastbourne, and Hastings, enabling clients to access our buildings to work independently on a self-care activity or project. Staff will be present to support clients should they require it.

Staying Well is an out-of-hours crisis prevention service for people experiencing a mental health decline. Open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, the service supports people to manage their wellbeing safely within the community, helping them work through intense and challenging feelings in a healthy way through psychosocial support and crisis prevention planning.

Through offering support and validation, we hope to reduce the risk of a client reaching a crisis point which would require a more intensive intervention from other services.
