Empathy in counselling is about the counsellor seeing the client’s world as they see it. Empathy is to respectfully perceive what the client is bringing from their frame of reference and to communicate that back in a way that makes the client feel they’ve been understood.

Past clients have commented that my way of working helps them to feel accepted, understood and respected. This helps to build a relationship where clients can be honest and open about their issues and supports a depth of work where long lasting change can be found. I greatly believe that this depth of relationship is one of the most important elements to facilitate change for you.

Panic -

"Panic is a sudden sensation of fear, which is so strong "as to dominate or prevent reason and logical thinking, replacing it with overwhelming feelings of anxiety and frantic agitation consistent with an animalistic fight-or-flight reaction."

Panic, or panic attacks, are so much more than this though. They can be crippling and stop you from living your life.

The best way to begin managing your panic attacks is to start building a toolbox of strategies that you can use to help manage them. However, it is important to remember that panic attacks are fairly common and that they are not dangerous. Therefore, the goal is not necessarily to eliminate panic attacks, but to learn to manage them without fear.

In general recovery is the ability to live in the present without being overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings of the past. Central to the experience of trauma is helplessness, isolation and the loss of power and control. The guiding principles of trauma recovery are the restoration of safety and empowerment.

As a person centred therapist it is my role to guide and support your own process not impose my own. I will allow you the time, space and confidentiality to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Enabling the process of recovery to occur.
