🦋 We don’t often get the chance to pause in the middle of such an emotional journey, but at the beginning of April, when we travelled over to Dudley to care for and conduct the funeral of my beautiful friend Jordan, we were met with such warmth and kindness that it truly stayed with me.

A heartfelt thank you to Lucy, William and all of the wonderful team at N E Downing Funeral Directors.

We arrived needing a moment to regroup, and instead were welcomed in like old friends. We freshened up our cars, drank plenty of coffee, and got through more biscuits than I’d care to admit, all whilst being looked after so thoughtfully by your team.

It was also incredibly special to be shown around your premises. As independent funeral directors ourselves, it’s always meaningful to see how others work, the traditions you uphold, and the care that runs through a family business. It’s a reminder that while we may all do things a little differently, at the heart of it, we are all here for the same reason.

Thank you for your generosity, your time, and your kindness during what was a very important day for us.

For us, that doesn't sit comfortably.

Arranging a funeral is one of the most difficult and stressful things a person will ever do.

You're making significant decisions often for the first time, all while dealing with shock, exhaustion and grief.
Yet somehow, life carries on around you.

Here are a few things that can help:

🤍 You don't have to do it alone. Bring someone with you when you come to see us.
🤍 Write things down. It's hard to retain information when you're grieving.
🤍 Ask us to repeat anything. We will never rush you.
🤍 Give yourself permission to take breaks from planning.
🤍 Eat, sleep and drink water. It sounds basic because it is, but grief makes all of it harder.

Today is World Health Day and April is also Stress Awareness Month.

We want to talk about something that doesn't get enough attention 🤍

Grief is one of the most stressful experiences a person can go through. Yet people are often expected to simply manage it alongside everything else in their lives.

Here are five things worth knowing:

🤍Grief affects your body, not just your mind. Sleep, appetite and concentration ALL of it.

🤍There is no timeline. Six weeks, six months, six years grief is different for everyone.

🤍Asking for help is not weakness. Talking to someone whether a friend, a Doctor or a counsellor, can make a real difference.

🤍Anniversaries and seasons can trigger grief long after the loss. This is completely normal.

🤍You don't have to be recently bereaved to struggling. Old grief resurfaces and that's valid too.
