What a fabulous post on insta from my client.

This is why I have tried, in my career, not to pigeon hole my work into just 1 speciality. People are not categories or criteria and the dualism that exists in healthcare is often more damaging than helpful.

This is why I try remain focused on client centred care and bring skills and strategies from a diverse range of experience and learning situations to help and guide my clients.

An afternoon of fabulous speakers with innovative and exciting approaches to ABI rehab. Lovely to catch up with colleagues old and new and to see my good friend Nicole Lavin try her hand at the decks with the fabulous BPM rehab.

This is fabulous… growing old is inevitable but weakness and frailty shouldn’t be! If there’s one piece of advice I can give to my peri menopausal/ menopausal/ post menopausal ladies it’s to keep moving, keep strong and keep celebrating what your body can achieve.

FND … the most common neurological condition that you’ve never heard of. Glad to hear Jeremy Vine covering it in BBC Radio 2 today, albeit quite brief. Good to hear from people with lived experience and from Professor Jon Stone and great to hear him and Tom Plender advocating for neuro physiotherapy.

Spotlight on Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD):

Neurorehab is a vast area of specialism! This client contacted me remotely to help with symptoms of persistent dizziness. Through regular video sessions we used a CBT formulation to help uncover triggers, maintenance cycles and safety behaviours.

Graded desensitisation was introduced as a means of habituating to triggering stimuli and to unpleasant sensation.

A coaching approach was adopted to help this client re-frame and understand triggers, how to mediate this and how to reduce hypervigilance to triggers.

The concept of sitting with unpleasant sensation without trying to change it, avoid it or distract from it may seem counterintuitive but can help to reduce the internal monitoring and feedback loop we often get pulled into when we experience unpleasant sensation.
