Saturday the 25th of May 2024. I will be running the Yorkshire 3 Peaks! (Solo)🏔️ for The Maurice Jagger Centre in Halifax 🦋

The run is to help raise funds for the Maurice Jagger Centre and for the Alzheimer’s society. The volunteers in Halifax do amazing work for anyone in the local area who have dementia or memory problems. Prior to my grandma passing she attended weekly with my grandad, the group offers varied programmes including games / grafts live musics, cakes and tea.

Grandad Roy still attends the group and it is always the highlight of his week, I can’t thank the volunteers and charity enough! Hopefully by me raising awareness and some funds this will help ensure the amazing work can continue!

This is a cause very close to my heart, by doing something horrific by running 24 miles (38.6km) with 5000ft (1600 meters) of vertical ascent🥲 this will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I will be doing this solo, as most of you are aware my sense of direction and forward planning isn’t always amazing. If I actually manage to find the route and complete it this will be a huge accomplishment in its self🤣

Please swipe alonggggg to the QR code to donate, or copy and paste the link below! (I will be sharing the links regularly on stories up until May).

Can I ask a favour😅 if your are between the ages of 18-25 years old. Currently or recently finished university (in the last 3+ years) please can you fill out my questionnaire!

There approx 10 questions it will take 2-5mins to fill out maximum! And is completely anonymous I won’t know who’s filled it in and it’s no judgement on your nutrition knowledge or understanding.

This is for my research paper as part of my MSc in dietetics. It is my third and final dissertation🤣 I won’t be writing 13,000 words again, well until I get the book deal that is. I would then need a proof reader for all the spelling errors obviously.

Please copy the link below! If anyones having any issues with the link please let me know.

As many of my close friends know Grandma Shirley peacefully passed on Friday 5/6/20. After her 10 years battle with dementia.

At the start of this year I pledged to run 5k for 50days to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s. For further research into the disease in the hope of prevention strategies and advancements in medication.

Covid put an unexpected holt on my charity bid, following a short decline in Shirley’s health which took priority over everything else.

This has increased my drive and ambition to help create awareness and help where I can with the amazing charities associated with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Today is day 1 of my run 5k for 50days, on day 50 I’m going to run a marathon 26.2miles, 42.2km, in a bid to raise funds for Alzheimer’s and dementia suffers. (To put it into context the furthest I’ve ever ran is roughly 10miles which made me want to never run again in my life).

The types of food you eat when your trying to lose weight matter, as it will determine the amount of food you can eat 🤯

Does that make sense? Yes to lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit (eating less calories than your body needs to maintain its current weight). This has been shown to be fact in 1000 of studies which has been taken place in labs, however your not in a lab?

Yes you could eat nothing but Jaffa cakes and lose weight, but practically that’s not going to be ideal is it? Nor would you be giving your body all the nutrients it needs.

So common sense would be to eat a more varied and balanced diet, eating satiating foods high in fruit and veg to meet your calorie needs.

But I guess Instagram doesn’t really work on common sense does it? Telling people there’s not really a quick fix isn’t very ‘sexy’ is it?.

The research performed on fitness trackers, fitbits, Apple watches etc. Have been shown to over estimate calories by 30-90% 😅 that’s what we call less then ideal.
-

This may be important for all the people who “eat back” the calories burnt, if your keeping an eye on your calorie intake! Your more then likely over eating on calories, due to it being inaccurate.
-

This may have an effect on your progress and creating a calorie deficit! Which is essential for any form of weight / fat loss.

A relationship with food that doesn’t take over your life,
A body you can enjoy and love!
-

This may come from changing your body composition,
Gaining muscle mass,
Losing weight,
Or maybe neither of them🤔
But I think we can all agree on eating a little more fruit and veg and drinking more water may help 🙈

Why not join us if you have a grey area of confusion, require a little guidance or are at a slight sticking point.

We are all here to help 😀

Pull workout 🏋🏼‍♀️ (adapt and change weight / reps).
-

Deadlifts
-
Pull ups (weighted or body weight)
-
Seal rows
-
Rear delts (free weights or machine)
-
Biceps 💪🏽
-

I would typically look for 20-25 sets overall for the whole workout, split however you feel will be the most beneficial

Can we stop telling people all they need is a calorie deficit 🤡
-

Your basic understanding of nutrition and training is showing hun?🙈 If you asked the majority of the population what a calorie deficit was? And how do I implement one? What answer would you get?! 🤔
-

Here’s a few things people actually need:
-
A plan and structure / realistic goals.
-
A little bit of knowledge on training and nutrition.
-
Finding some form of activity / movement they enjoy!
-
Habit changes / tendencies
-
Lifestyle changes
-
Some fun! It shouldn’t be boring. If it’s dull your not going to stick to it, it’s as simple as that 🙃
-

And a calorie deficit, let’s not just guess some random requirements and set people on their way!. Slow and steady will be the most beneficial and realistic ✌🏾

Here’s me doing weighted pull ups (20kg) for 5 reps. Pre covid I could do 12 reps. Next week I’ll be able to do more, and the week after that I’ll probably be back to 12 reps.
-

So let’s just relax yeah? No ones bothered about how many pull ups you can do (especially you Max), but it’s just a little context for the people stressing 🤯
-

You won’t of lost that much muscle or strength during lockdown, if you’ve trained for a prolonged period of time, your body will just bounce back. As it always does? as it just adapts to whatever stress is placed on it.
-

I’m just out here crying happy tears if I’m honest 🤣 being back in the gym. Im going out for tea tonight too 🍽 WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

-

Not all calories are equal 🤔
-

Food for thought 💭 💭 -

When looking to reduce calories it may be a good idea to increase the amount of fruit and veg you are consuming, to help with feeling fuller for much longer (fibre). This paired with a sufficient amount of protein, could also reduce the amount of times your looking for a ‘snack’ or something from the cupboard. Protein and fibre are great for filling us up! Helping us to reduce the amount we are snacking.

A little like your overall calorie intake over the course of the day/week/month being the most important. It’s not the one specific meal or day causing you to gain or lose weight 🥘
-

Consistency trumps all as always🙃 no magic trick unfortunately.
