HIV Treatment has undergone huge transformations since the early 80's when HIV was first discovered, and the work to beat this virus continues with the development of a PrEP injection.

Lenacapavir, which stops HIV from replicating inside cells, has passed early safety tests.

Now we’re at the end of HIV testing week we hope that you are a little more knowledgeable about HIV, the need for testing and some of the myths have been debunked! Services operate all year round and aim to support those who may be at risk of acquiring, or have acquired HIV. Now we’re coming to the end of HIV testing week it would be great if people were to build accessing sexual health services into their regular healthcare routine. This includes thinking about medications such as PrEP and routine testing to pick up any undetected HIV so effective treatment can be started early.

U=U - Undetectable means untransmissable! HIV treatments are much improved since we first became aware of this virus and now treatments are so effective they can reduce the levels of Virus in the body to undetectable levels. Once this has been achieved then it is impossible for someone to pass the virus on to someone else. Stop Stigma! HIV treatment and care has come a long way since the early days of the 1980’s and thankfully some of the prejudice and scapegoating of particular groups has lessened. However, it hasn’t gone away and for many people with HIV stigma is something they still experience which is unacceptable and can unnecessarily prevent people from getting tested. Mission Zero is Calderdales contribution to the government aim to stop all new transmissions of HIV, TB and Hepatitis by 2030.
