Purely by chance our two September meetings feature - if only briefly - corves. The image of this form of transport is taken from Beecham & Bowers ‘A History of Northowram’.

On 7th September, Ian Philp has a walk round the village of Hove Edge. It features a former private railway, stone mines and quarries, WW2 sites and a General buried in Westminster Abbey. Dogs on leads. There is a short narrow footpath with some undergrowth early on so leg covering might be advisable.

Meet Ian outside the Dusty Miller on A644, HD6 2PB. Please do not use the pub’s carpark unless you are having Sunday roast first!

On Sunday 28th Mary Twentyman will be looking round parts of Norwood Green exploring coal mining in the area. It is difficult to believe that it was once a humble pit village. This is a new walk entitled Coke, Coal and Corves.

Meet Mary at 2pm at the War Memorial at Village Street, Norwood Green, HX3 8QD.

You will need £4 in cash, please.

We are beginning to plan our winter programme and hope to publish this within a few weeks.

I'm looking forward to taking walkers on my 3hr ramble on Midgley Moor tomorrow! Remember to wear suitable footwear for moorland terrain please. It's forecast high UV and high pollen, so sunscreen recommended as there's no shelter, and maybe hay fever pill if you might be affected by heather pollen. Bit warm too, at 26 degrees. Not too bad, all told! See you 2pm at the Hare & Hounds x-roads.
