Are you looking to start your career in a supportive and professional environment? Haltwhistle Medical Group is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Admin Apprentice to join our friendly team.
📍 Location: Haltwhistle, Northumberland
🕒 Hours: Full-time (Apprenticeship contract)

💷 Salary: Apprenticeship rate (in line with national guidelines)
What You’ll Be Doing:
As an Admin Apprentice, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a busy GP practice, learning essential administrative skills including:
• Greeting and assisting patients at reception
• Managing appointments and patient records
• Handling phone and email enquiries
• Supporting the wider admin team with day-to-day tasks
What We’re Looking For:
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Basic IT knowledge (training will be provided)
• A genuine interest in working in healthcare administration

Parkinson's Drop In Sessions
Anyone affected by Parkinson's is invited to pop along on selected Tuesdays to meet our Parkinson's Local Adviser. Ask questions, collect information, and find out more about living with Parkinson's.
A private space is available for confidential conversations.
Anyone affected by Parkinson's or wanting to know more about the condition is very welcome, regardless of age, including those with the condition, their family and friends, and members of the public.

Find us at the Methodist Church Hall, 10am to 12noon.
While you're there you're also welcome to join the older person's drop-in which offers hot drinks, biscuits, and friendly chat. Again anyone with a Parkinson's connection is welcome, regardless of age.

Flu Vaccination 2025/26

Patients recommended to have a flu vaccine include:
• everyone aged 65 years and over
• everyone under 65 years of age who has a long term medical condition, including children and babies over 6 months of age
• all pregnant women, at any stage of pregnancy
• all children aged 2 and 3 years (provided they were aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August before flu vaccinations starts in the autumn)
• all children in primary school
• some secondary school-aged children (Years 7 to 11)
• everyone living in a residential or nursing home
• everyone who receives a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person
• all those living with someone who has lowered immunity due to disease or treatment
• all frontline health and social care workers
It is best to have your flu vaccination in the autumn or early winter before flu rates increase. Remember that you need it every year, so don’t assume you are protected because you had one last year.

Children and pregnant patients appointment are available from September 2025 and can be booked via the NHS app or via the booking link in your invitation text message

Adults (over 18s) appointments are available from October 2025 and can be booked via the NHS app or via the booking link in your invitation text message.

From the 2nd September 2025 we do have a dedicated vaccination line for booking appointments or vaccination queries ring 01434 325900 – the line is open Tuesday to Friday from 14.00 – 16.30.

The Haltwhistle Medical Group is based at the Health Centre on Greencroft Avenue in Haltwhistle. The building offers a modern, inviting interior, and full access for disabled patients. All of our consultation rooms are on the ground floor, and guide/hand rails are available along all of our corridors. The practice have 4 salaried GP’s alongside 4 practice partners and are also a GP Registrar and nurse Training Practice. We work as a team with the Community Midwife, Community Nurses, Practice Nurses, Health Visitors, Podiatrist, School Nurses and CPNs to provide a comprehensive service for the Haltwhistle district. The practice covers an area of 200 square miles and serves around 5,800 patients.
