JANE'S STORY
After years of trying to slim on my own I plucked up the courage to go along to my local Slimming World group in Corbridge and I never looked back. As a music teacher, I felt embarrassed performing on stage or conducting the school choir. I even felt self-conscious about my appearance in the classroom when I was standing at the front writing on the whiteboard. Slimming World has totally changed my life. In group, my consultant Laura and the other members made me feel so welcome, it was reassuring to know there were other people in the same situation. I just felt straight away that I was up for this challenge and it was completely the right time for me to begin my journey. The plan was easy, of course there were weeks when things got tough but I kept going and with the support of Laura and the group members each week spurring me on, the weight just kept dropping off. Friends and colleagues were starting to notice. That gave me a fantastic boost. Now I feel energised and more confident. It’s just brilliant that I can finally wear the clothes I want to wear rather than just picking them out to camouflage my figure as I did previously. There is no way I could have done it without the group supporting me, they certainly made it easier. I feel strongly that If I can do it, anyone can. I just want others to feel as good as I feel. That's why I decided to apply to become a Slimming World Consultant. I'm so excited to be given this fantastic opportunity to help others to achieve their goal and live a happier and healthier life. NICIS STORY
I started my Slimming World journey mid 2016 and looking back, it was the best thing I did! After having my son in October 2014 and gaining nearly 4st, I really struggled to get it off! I did try several different diets/shakes/tablets, which never offered anything sustainable. I hated going out with friends because of the way I looked, my wedding ring didn't fit (& hadn't been worn for nearly 2 years!) and I lacked confidence with everything I did. After seeing a picture of myself in April 2016, I knew I had to do something for my health & my confidence. In June 2016, I plucked up the courage to attend my local Slimming World group with my sister in law and my life changed! I felt very nervous going into group on my first night but I was welcomed like an old friend. After three weeks of getting stuck in to food optimising I achieved my first 1/2st award and the negative feelings were fast disappearing! I was enjoying so much great food which as a foodie, is very important to me! My family were even getting involved and loving the same great meals that I was. Fast forward to 2017 where I had achieved my target weight in January loosing 3st 3lbs and my wedding ring now fits! I developed a new love and understanding of food that I still have today. The support from my consultant and group was so important, from the warm welcome on that first night, to the cheers of support with my awards and even on those weeks that didn't quite go to plan, they helped me refocus and plan for the loss the next week. I value that support so much that I still attend group now! I became a consultant in May 2018 to help others change their lives, the way I did! The support that I see in group every week between my members never ceases to amaze me and I always get excited for group night! Seeing my members achieve their weight loss dreams always fills me with pride knowing that they are living a healthy life!

Our groups start with 25 minutes new member talk (from the time you see advertised for group), at the same time existing members come, pay, weigh (grab a cuppa, pick up raffle tickets - just 10p each and browse the group shop) then grab a seat ready for the important bit!

From then we have our group support session. Tailored for you, your needs and your goals and never more than 40 minutes.

I’m Rachel and I run the groups in Haltwhistle 👋 I’ve lost 5 stone with Slimming World, so I thought I’d share my top tips for anyone deciding if it will work for you too…

💘 Focus on eating foods you know love, but be prepared to change how you cook them. Trying to completely change your food likes overnight won’t inspire you.

💘 Give yourself time to plan, whether it’s for a whole week, or just the day ahead. Once you’ve done the thinking, it’s far easier to just do it.

💘 Learn to forgive yourself. Overindulged? Never mind, move on! Don’t let it send you spiralling into a week of self-sabotage. You’re only human.

💘 Find easy meals you can quickly turn to when you need comfort that will keep you on track but feel more flexible. Cheesy pasta? Loaded fries? Yes please!

💘 Set yourself goals, big or small, long-term or short-term. Something to motivate you, a reason to get up and food optimise. Without those, what’s the point?

💘 Surround yourself with a team of cheerleaders to get you through the tougher times. Friends, family, your group of members. Tell those at home why it’s important to you so they can help you too.

💘 Accept you need to do something different to get a new result. If you’re not happy with how you look and feel now, you’re going to need to change your habits to feel different. It feels scary but it’s soooo worth it.

If you’re new to wholewheat, try mixing 50:50 white and wholewheat pasta (just allow a bit of extra cooking time)

CATHERINE'S STORY...

I first joined Slimming World back in July 2010 along with a friend, my 21st brithday was coming up the following April and I so badly wanted to do something about my current size,

I had always been the biggest in my class or the bigger friend out of the group of friends I was in. My first ever group I went to, everyone was lovely and I knew from the off I was going to settle in perfectly, my consultant at the time expalin the whole plan in so much deatil and so much passion I kept thinking positvely about it all and found out during the image therapy session how fantastically well other people had got on.
