Another of our goals at the Mindful Hub is providing education and support to the community around us.
Keith is very passionate about education and support around the topic of Neurodiversity, which includes amongst other things Autism.
Keith has invested in training in a program called Cothu (pronounced Ka-hoo) from an Irish training provider called Ausome Training.
Cothu is a neuro-affirming parenting support program for parents and carers of Autistic Children and teens
Cothu is different - whilst most parenting courses will teach you how to 'manage' behaviours, meltdowns, sensitivities, anxiety, school refusal, and so on - these courses assume and teach you how to respond to a child that is already in crisis. Wouldn't it be better to offer support a child that is not constantly in crisis?
Cothu offers parents a different view of their child, and a deep understanding of what it means to be autistic - because the course was designed by Autistic people, with Autistic insight and understanding.
This is a 5 week course (1x 2hr session per week) for parents or carers to be held in person in a calm, and safe space at The Mindful Hub in Haltwhistle.
The aim is to help you understand your child from an Autistic perspective, deepen your connection, and improve your whole family's wellbeing.
You will have the opportunity to connect with other parents and carers that are in similar situations, share experiences, and learn from each other in a respectful, non-judgemental way.
You can be at any stage in your child's journey to join this course. A diagnosis of autism or referral to the pathway either via the NHS or privately is not required.
This course is for adults, it is not for adults to attend with their children or siblings, and as such Keith is open to looking at times to hold this course that work for people who want to attend.
Traditionally these courses are held in the evening, but Keith is open to holding a course during the morning or afternoon if that works better for people.
Although these courses normally come with a fee, Keith is offering to run the first course (all five weeks) free of charge. There will be a break in each session, and drinks and snacks will be available to purchase during the breaks - your support would be appreciated.
If you are interested in attending the course, would like to express a preference of time of day, or would like more information, please let us know - you can comment on this post, or message Keith via the Mindful Hub page if you'd prefer to do so privately.
