Right now we are witnessing a global scale exposure of darkness.
It’s extremely difficult to see, but it is necessary. And as more and more light is shone into the darkness, the more will be exposed.
Shame only has control when it is hidden in the shadows. It cannot survive once it is seen.
It hides well, because we are really good at pretending it doesn’t exist. But as soon as it is exposed, it begins to lose its grip, and everything it was controlling starts to crumble.
It is no different to the inner work we do - where we go into our own shadows and face what is hidden. The fears and shame that control our thoughts, behaviour and our lives from underneath the surface.
Those parts that control us without us even realising.
I do believe that the change we want to see in the world has to start from within us.
So if we want more light in the world, we have to be willing to shine a light on our own darkness first. We have to face the shame, the fear, and the parts of us we would rather avoid. Not with anger or judgement, but with compassion and love.
And we have to be prepared to see it out there too, on a larger scale - without allowing hate to take over.
It takes an enormous amount of strength, courage and love.
It requires steadiness, and it requires community.
There is a lot being revealed right now - both within us and in the world around us - and it is really hard to see.
The most powerful thing you can do, for yourself and for the collective, is to face your own darkness. It’s there, it’s uncomfortable, and sometimes it is ugly. But it is also where your freedom is.
We are all connected, and every time you bring something to the light within yourself, you bring more light into the world.
It may feel like we are in dark times, but remember that exposure means it no longer stays hidden, and no longer has control.
So keep doing your work. Stay steady and stay strong.
Be kind, loving and compassionate.
In love and unity,
