❄️ Cold Weather Alert - Yellow Weather Warning ⚠️ ❄️
A yellow alert is in place across much of England from midday today through until early Saturday due to low temperatures and increased risk to health for older people and those with existing conditions.
With the chill setting in, it’s more important than ever to stay warm and look after ourselves—and each other. Here are some simple, low-cost ways to keep cosy and safe:
🧣 Layer your clothing: A few thinner layers trap heat better than one bulky jumper. Don’t forget warm socks and a hat if you’re feeling extra chilly.
🏡 Focus heat where it’s needed most: Heat the room you spend the most time in (for example the living room or bedroom) and keep doors closed to conserve warmth.
🛏️ Warm your bed: Use an extra blanket or hot water bottle to warm the bed before you get in. A small electric blanket (used safely) can help, too.
☕ Eat and drink warmly: Soups, hot drinks and regular meals help your body maintain its internal warmth.
🌬️ Block drafts & use curtains: On cold nights, close curtains early, use draft excluders under doors and keep windows closed when you’re not airing the room.
🚶 Keep moving gently: Light activity—like getting up every hour to stretch—keeps your circulation going and helps your body stay warmer.
👁️ Check on vulnerable friends, neighbours or family: The yellow alert means there is a greater risk of health impacts for those over 65, or with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
