❓Does pelvic anatomy feel like one of those topics you should understand... but never quite feel confident with?

Pelvic anatomy is one of those areas a lot of people quietly avoid. Not because it's not important – but because it can feel complicated, a bit overwhelming, and hard to apply in real life.

Julie has a way of taking something like the pelvic diaphragm and making it make sense – not just in theory, but in your hands and in your clinic.

✔️This workshop isn't about sitting and listening all day. It's practical, it's clear, and you'll leave with things you can actually use on Monday morning.

If this is an area you've been meaning to understand bette (without feeling out of your depth), this workshop might be the nudge you need.

💬Some conversations stay with you long after they finish.

💬I recently sat down with my friend and colleague Julie Hammond to talk about anatomy, teaching, collaboration, and her new book "The Pelvic Diaphragm."

Julie is one of the hardest-working women I know. She’s the Director of Anatomy Trains Australia & New Zealand, a clinician, educator, and someone who genuinely believes that none of us holds all the answers.

🧩Instead, we each bring a piece of the puzzle.

💡One line from the interview really stayed with me:
“We can’t do everything — and that’s ok. Just be really good at what you do.” — Julie Hammond.

📔Julie’s new book brings together more than two decades of clinical practice, anatomy teaching, and curiosity about how the body really works.

📝In the interview we talk about:
• anatomy that still excites her after all these years
• the story behind writing the book
• why collaboration between practitioners matters
• balancing clinic, teaching, business and family
• and why serious anatomy should still include a lot of laughter.

Julie will also be teaching The Pelvic Diaphragm workshop in the UK in August 2026, which I’m delighted to be hosting.

🌿Preparing for surgery can feel like stepping into the unknown.

🌿Most of the focus is on the operation itself — the hospital appointment, the surgeon, the procedure. But the body is already doing a huge amount of work before surgery even begins.

💬In clinic and during classes I’m often asked thoughtful questions like:
• Is there anything I can do before surgery to help my recovery?
• Does preparing the lymphatic system make a difference?
• Should I rest more or keep moving?
• Can swelling after surgery be reduced if the body is supported beforehand?
These are really good questions.

📝I’ve written a blog exploring some gentle ways to support the body before surgery and why this preparation can sometimes make recovery smoother.

🫶I’d be really interested to hear —
if you’ve had surgery before, was there anything that helped your recovery?

✔️I’m really excited to be hosting a very special workshop this summer in Suffolk....

🫶This one is quite personal for me. Julie and I actually co-founded Balancing the Diaphragms together. Our work later went in different directions — I followed the cancer support pathway while Julie continued developing the diaphragm model — so hosting her here feels like things coming full circle.

✨The Pelvic Diaphragm – Treating Pelvic Pain & Dysfunction Through a Global Lens - with Julie Hammond

✨Julie’s work looks at the body through the relationship of the diaphragms — breathing, pelvic, thoracic and beyond — and how these structures influence pain, movement, pressure systems and function throughout the whole body.

✨It’s also incredibly practical, with hands-on assessment and treatment approaches you can bring straight into clinic.

📍 Venue: Functional Pilates, Fornham All Saints (near Bury St Edmunds)

💷 Cost:
• Full price: £375
• Early Bird £325 (until 7th April)
• Special offer £200 (until 7th April) for anyone who has already completed a Balancing the Diaphragms workshop with Julie or with me.

Booking is directly through me:
📧 fi@therapyinmotion.co

📔Julie has also recently released a new book exploring this global approach to pelvic pain and dysfunction, which provides a deeper look at the concepts behind the workshop. It’s available on Amazon for anyone who would like to explore her work further.
And a little teaser…

💬I’ll also be publishing an upcoming “Pieces of the Puzzle” interview with Julie on the blog very soon, where we learn:
• a little about Julie fun vs professional
• take a little look into her book
• about Julie the business woman, writer, teacher and the importance of family.

If you’re curious about Julie’s work or want to know if the course would suit you, feel free to message me.
