Mind in West Essex

Mind in West Essex Local mental health charity covering Uttlesford, Harlow, and Epping Forest areas of Essex, UK.

We believe that with the right support everyone has the potential to take steps that will improve their quality of life. Please explore this site to find out more about the range of activities, therapies and opportunities that are available. As an organisation we are committed to ensuring those with mental health problems are respected and included in their local communities. We are affiliated to National Mind and adhere to the Mind Quality Standards. This ensures that our services are offering best practice and are sensitive to local needs. Our main office bases are currently in Harlow and Great Dunmow; however therapies and activities take place in venues throughout local communities across West Essex. Our Board of Trustees are all volunteers drawn from the local community. Our services are delivered by a team of 44 staff, 75 volunteers and 85 people who work for us on a self- employed basis. We actively encourage involvement by people who have a personal experience of mental ill health in all aspects of our organisation. Please do let us know if you have ideas of additional ways we could use this site to support those affected by mental ill health.

You may not fancy going out in this weather for the walk we had planned in Harlow this morning.

But if you'd like a chat, you can still drop by Mind Sanctuary in Potter Street for a cuppa any time between now and 1pm.

Talking openly and honestly can be the first step towards better mental health for everyone. It can reduce stigma and help people feel comfortable enough to seek help when they need it.

You can find ideas for starting a conversation in your community, talking tips for opening up or supporting someone else, and resources for your school or workplace here: Mind.org.uk/get-involved/time-to-talk-day/

It was lovely to meet so many of our Potter Street neighbours today!

We welcomed residents of the local area for a cuppa at Mind Sanctuary. It was a chance to see how we've transformed the building, share ideas for community use for the space and find out more about our services.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ—ฃ We're also holding a Walk and Talk at Mind Sanctuary this Thursday for Time To Talk Day! Everyone is welcome - meet at Mind Sanctuary just before 10am and join us for an easy walk and friendly chat in the nearby area, before returning for a cuppa around 11am.

๐Ÿ’™ We're also planning an official opening event for the whole community in May. More details soon!

Reminder: Asking someone directly about suicidal thoughts doesn't increase their risk, and can actually help them.

Direct conversations about su***de can reduce distress, make people feel less alone, and encourage them to seek help.

Our online Su***de Awareness workshop helps you to become informed when talking about su***de.

It aims to give you the confidence to have supportive conversations with people who are feeling suicidal, so that they can get the help they need.

The virtual workshop is FREE for people who live or work in Harlow, Uttlesford or Epping Forest (ยฃ25 outside of West Essex).

We currently have 1 remaining date that hasn't booked out yet - but there are only a few places left.

๐Ÿ—ฃ Time to Talk Day is about coming together to talk, listen and change lives. Talking openly and honestly can be the first step towards better mental health for everyone. It can reduce stigma and help people feel comfortable enough to seek help when they need it.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Our partnership with Active Essex Find Your Active: Move for your Mind is about small, achievable ways you can support your mental wellbeing through movement. Even small bursts of activity or just getting outside for a short stroll can lift your spirits, calm your mind, and build resilience.

So why not join us for a Walk and Talk on Thursday, February 5th? It's all about conversation, movement and connection. Every step counts. ๐Ÿ’™

Sometimes the stresses of daily life can get in the way, but movement and community provide a much-needed anchor for mental wellbeing.

Alongside Active Essex Find Your Active: Move for your Mind, weโ€™re here to show you that physical activity is far more than just exercise. Itโ€™s a tool for healing, connection, and resilience.

Through our weekly Harlow Walking Group, Rob has seen these benefits in himself and others. Rob joined the group several years ago during a difficult period and now leads it each week as a volunteer.
