Meet Laura 💗

Laura came to me saying:
‘I have a fairly good understanding of fitness and health etc. I'm already quite active and I understand the principles behind calories, macros etc (although I'm a veggie and I struggle a lot with the protein side of it), but my biggest issue is my mindset. I can have a few weeks of doing everything really well, feeling much better in myself but the moment something throws me off track I seem to be back to square one. I know life can get in the way, but I really wish I was able to find other coping strategies, other than over-eating or binging for a long period of time. Or, if something happens that does throw me off course, just being able to get back to it more quickly!’

This super star ⭐️👏

When she first came on plan, she said 👇🏻

‘I literally don't think I can be bothered. Is what initially springs to mind but that is not constructive. I tend to think oh sod it, this won't matter that won't matter. I make excuses to myself about eating badly or not sticking to plan. I tend to try and avoid things and then justify it to myself.

I always turn to food to ‘make me feel better’ when I feel something has gone wrong or I feel stressed or upset.

If the kids misbehave or I feel that I’ve done something wrong in parenting them I’ll go straight in the kitchen and eat ice cream or have a drink etc.

If I am worried about work I stop on the way home and buy minstrels that I eat in the car.

It all sounds ridiculous when I actually think about it and write it down but I do it on auto pilot. Almost convinced that I have no control. I do realise that it is a choice.’

So what did we do to change the above and enable her to lose 3 stone and feel so much more confident in her ability to keep it off?

✔️ She’s had 1-2-1 CBT sessions where we have worked together to find alternative coping mechanisms rather than food/ alcohol AND given her tools to be able to assess her thoughts (rather than act upon them straight away) and take alternative action that’s more conducive to what she wants from her life.
✔️ She’s had a diet plan where ALL foods have been allowed - so she doesn’t feel food guilt or massively restricted
✔️ I’ve checked her food diary for her daily so that IF something has gone a little wonky, we address it there and then - not a week later.
✔️ I’ve sat down with her and looked through menus when she’s eaten out to give her the best options and help her feel supported and less likely to think ‘Screw it!’

I love how she mentions that the plan has also had a positive impact on OTHER aspects of her life.

In fact, she achieved top marks in her uni work because this time, she prioritised what was needed to be done (something we discussed in her CBT sessions also)

Some for you 🙌

You don’t actually have to be motivated to take action.

In fact, if you do this, you’ll probably be waiting around forever.
And simultaneously, falling further behind.

Take action.
Do something.
Hasn’t got to be a big thing, it can be really simple - a 5 minute walk, cooking yourself a nice breakfast, doing a 15 minute workout.

You know that feeling when you get up, run some errands and suddenly feel like you can take on the world so you go and do even more?!

It’s because you took action! The action breeds the motivation to do MORE!

It’s the same when a client signs up to work with me. They instantly feel more motivated despite having spent maybe months struggling to do anything.

‘I can’t wait to get started!’ Is what a lady said to me the other day after signing up.

Why? Because she did something. She took a step forward. She stopped putting things off.

Now it’s your turn.
Stop telling yourself that you need to be motivated to do something.

To: ‘I feel differently towards food. There isn’t this huge continual battle. It’s amazing! I have felt really positive this week. I have a renewed sense of purpose. I realised I was just waiting for something to ‘go wrong’ and to ‘ruin’ things. But I have realised that I am doing a lot right and I am enjoying the achievements!’

‘Super super happy with my progress and I can not thank you enough. You’ve educated me. You’ve given me knowledge and knowledge is power. I firmly believe that you get what you pay for and they (friends) may stick to it short term like I did with SW (Slimming World) but I can now see that what I am doing is making my progress sustainable.’

What are we doing? 👇🏻
✔️ I’ve given this client a personalised nutritional plan, tailored to her and her goal. I took the guesswork out.
✔️ We’ve worked on her relationship with food, so she no longer looks at foods as good or bad and allows herself to have all foods, without guilt.
✔️ We’ve worked on emotional regulation, so she no longer uses food as her only form of comfort, ‘My relationship with food has been consistent, no triggers and no binges. I have not had a binge in a long long time.’
✔️ We continuously work on her being aware of her values - and taking action that’s in line with those values.
✔️She is now training several times a week regularly- and she hated exercise before! She’s clear on the benefits of doing so and now has linked the exercise to boosting her overall mood, ‘I’m really into the exercise now and feeling the benefits with it particularly around my mood!’ - which means she’s more likely to continue with it 😉👌
✔️ We’ve worked on implementing elements of mindful eating (which we will continue to build on when she gets to her maintenance point and start to move away from tracking)
✔️ I’ve educated her on nutrition, so she has an understanding now that she can carry with her forever.

For those of you who have paid money to stand on a scale and either be congratulated or asked ‘Why do you think this has happened?’ If you’ve gained a few pounds, every week…

Or have had a meal out over the weekend only to find yourselves 5lbs up on Monday…

A reminder 🙋🏻‍♀️

If FAT LOSS is the goal - focus on methods of monitoring fat loss.

Your weight probably will decline over time as you drop body fat.

But it probably won’t be linear.
And it probably will fluctuate.

Big drops or gains in weight in a short duration of time, are usually always due to water weight - not body fat.

Unless you’re a boxer or a jockey, your weight isn’t going to show you much.

And if you focus solely on scale weight alone, you’ll probably get p*ssed off with it at some point and give up (or at least be in a huff all day) when in reality…you’re doing nothing wrong.

Which then WILL have an effect on your progress.

It’s why, when clients are on plan with me, we go mainly by progress photos AND how the client is feeling.

Because weight doesn’t tell you that either.
It doesn’t tell you if that person is healthy, if they’re quality of life is good.

To be honest, it doesn’t really tell you much at all.

Instead of focusing on scale weight, focus on:
✔️ How you feel in yourself (3lbs off won’t be worth it if you’re bloody miserable all week)
✔️ Your strength (weight used for lifts etc)
✔️ How your clothes fit
✔️ Progress photos
✔️ Measurements

The glow up is real ✨💕

This lady has come SUCH a long way since starting the plan with me.

65 pounds down 👏 but that’s not the best bit.

That first photo (where she has blonde hair) has no filter what so ever. I said to Clair, she looks alive now. She’s always had the most infectious personality and beautiful soul, but I can see now in her photo from Xmas, she looks glowing.

She looks happy.
You glow differently when you’re happy.

She said to me that her whole life has transformed since working with me.

By addressing her diet, her exercise, her mindset with CBT sessions and daily support and everything included in the Support and Transform Personal Plan.

She’s learnt compassion for herself, to forgive herself for her ‘I’m mistakes’ and not to beat herself up.

She’s learnt to appreciate her body for more than how it looks and to (in her own words) ‘treat it with kindness by eating nutritious foods, taking walks and staying strong with exercise.’

I am so proud of you.

Over 3 stone down in 5 months.

It’s included Xmas, birthdays, meals out for your anniversary. Life, essentially 🤗💕

But there’s more than that.

I remember when we first started working together and you was certain there was certain foods you couldn’t have.

Having come from a Slimming World background, you were convinced certain foods were ‘bad’ for fat loss.

Now you’re allowing yourself to have ALL foods, without judgement, without guilt and seeing success 👏

You’ve also learnt about nutrition- the importance of protein, fibre and healthy fats. Something you wasn’t aware of before.

You’ve started exercising and despite saying ‘I usually hate exercise’ - you’re now valuing it and loving the live workouts with me 🤗

AND last but not least - you’ve learnt to set boundaries in your life, to take care of YOU and to find other coping mechanisms for stress that’s not food related.

Thats an INSANE amount of progress - physically, mentally and emotionally 👏

You have taken on everything I’ve taught you and it shows.

Be proud of yourself. It’s your hard work.

How to prevent falling ‘off the wagon’ throughout 2022 👌

Drum roll please 🥁


Take away the wagon.

The problem with that pesky wagon or referring to your health/ fitness goals as ‘on’ or ‘off’ is that it’s great when it’s on…

But when it’s ‘off’ you fall off in spectacular fashion.

It all goes to pot.

And all or nothing rarely works for anyone.

I mean, how many of you this resonates with are actually at a place where you feel content, long term?

It doesn’t work ❌

Instead, view your health/fitness goals as healthful habits (my clients love this phrase) or non negotiables (many of my clients have used this over Xmas and subsequently are feeling the best they have over the Xmas period in YEARS)

Mine are:
✔️ Always starting the day with a protein shake
✔️ Always getting in at least 2 hours of exercise per week
✔️ Always getting the D (vitamin, obvs. Take your mind out the gutter)
✔️ Always getting around 7-8 hours sleep

Set yours today.
Keep them doable.

Here’s some of my incredible clients success stories this year 💗

And by ‘success’, I don’t just mean weight loss.

There’s so much more to each of these ladies journeys.

Client 1) Her mindset towards food & herself has completely changed. She no longer uses food or alcohol as coping mechanisms for stress/sadness. Yesterday in Her CBT session she said ‘I didn’t drink at all this Xmas & that’s huge for me’ - she regularly practices compassion & has kept her non negotiables going over Xmas. What a rockstar 👏

Client 2) I had a CBT session with this lady yesterday too. She said ‘This is the best I’ve felt over the Xmas period EVER & going into the New Year’. 💗 She says, ‘Overall I feel bloody amazing!!!Honestly Katie, I wish I could put into words how much you have helped me!’

Client 3) This lady has been through ALOT since she’s come on plan. Her relationship with food has improved as she no longer looks as foods as good or bad. Not only did she say ‘This is the most progress I’ve seen in all my years on Slimming World’ but she also messaged me the other day to say she’d gotten a workout in over Xmas and is focusing on improving her fitness in the New Year.

Client 4) Not only is This lady is down 40lbs but she’s now in a totally difference place when it comes to food to when she started. She told me she’d lost a lot of weight before but from really restricting herself & denying herself of the foods she loved (and subsequently, the weight went back on again after). This time? She’s had take away, meals out, chocolate, you name it. The result? She feels great and is continuing to enjoy dieting, get results and I’ll be working with her on a reverse diet to get her to an awesome maintenance place.

Client 5) This lady very almost gave up 2 weeks into the plan! Her weight had increased by a couple of pounds and she said ‘I just don’t know if it’s for me’ - I told her to give it a bit of time and then see. She did and she was SO PLEASED that she didn’t let scale weight de-rail her. She said, ‘Thank you again for all your help you have been so easy to work with and made it so easy to adapt to.’

Instead, keep it easy.
Make smaller changes.
Set yourself achievable goals.

Actions that you can make that are doable, with a little effort involved.

It’s often why, when a client comes to me all guns blazing, I often get them to just focus on a couple of things and keep it simple.

Because it’s better to consistently stick to something

than to be consistently disappointed that you’re not sticking to them.

Discipline is hard.
Taking action that you know your future self will thank you for, is hard.

But you know what’s harder?
Living a life that you’re unhappy with.

Waking up every day and not feel satisfied.
That s**t, is really f*cking hard.

It can also be a pretty tough realisation that it’s only us who’s standing in our own way.

‘I never stick to anything’
‘I just can’t motivate myself’
‘I’m all or nothing’

The above is you excusing yourself from taking responsibility for your actions.

In fact, you’ll have COUNTLESS examples of when you have stuck to something and achieved great things, even if it was difficult.

So whatever you’re currently struggling with, is no different.
Except how you’re perceiving it.
What you’re telling yourself.

What if I told you, that if you don’t take action today, you’ll be in the exact same place in 3-6 months time.

Would that be ok for you?
Would it not be better to do something, anything?
Because isn’t something always better than nothing?

It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Imperfect action will always get you closer than no action at all.

You don’t need to be motivated to start something.

You just need to do something.

It’s not just ‘here’s a diet plan/ exercise plan away you go’

We go further than that.

Why?
Because the above won’t get you making changes for life.

And I’m about the lifestyle changes.

If you’ve not googled diet plans yourself or gone to YouTube for free workouts, that’s obviously not what you’re struggling with.

You need more.
Most people do.

See, I don’t want you just to get me an impressive before and after photo (Which it seems some online coaches do & leave the clients with a f*cked up relationship with food and battling with themselves to maintain that physique)

I want you to be able to maintain a physique you are comfortable with, feel confident and happy in your skin, feel completely at ease with food, strong and healthy 💗

A meal plan doesn’t cut it.
A workout plan doesn’t cut it.

Support does 👌

If you’re looking for a quick fix, I’m not it. There’s plenty of those out there to choose from.

But if you’re thinking ‘Right, I need to do this now, for me. I need to learn how to maintain this for life. I’m done with fads’
