It’s time to plant your spring bulbs!
Our member has just had a huge delivery of spring bulbs! Ready to plant in your beds, borders and containers, these low maintenance and easy to grow bulbs will be a welcome sight after the darker, colder winter months. Plant now to early autumn for a wonderful display of colour to welcome in the new year!
Top tips:
🌱 Bulbs are sold in their dormant phase which means they need to be planted this year
🏡 Choose the right type of bulb for the conditions in your garden. Details are provided on bulb packets.
💧Prepare beds and containers by removing any weeds and digging compacted soil. If you are planning on a big display of colour for the spring, add lots of well-rotted organic matter for improved drainage, moisture retention and nutrient levels.
📏 When planting lots of bulbs in one area, it is easier to dig a channel, at a depth 2 – 3 times the height of the bulb, and place bulbs where you want them.
☔️ Once planted, water the bulbs. Spring bulbs should not need watering again as autumnal weather will naturally take care of their needs.
💐 If planting in baskets and containers, use a good quality, free draining soil such as John Innes No. 2.
Then simply sit back and wait for spring and a beautiful show of colour!
