Bone and Joint Week is a dedicated campaign that raises awareness about the importance of musculoskeletal health and the possible prevention of bone and joint disorders.

There are more than 200 musculoskeletal conditions which
affect 1 in 4 of the adult population - around 9.6 million adults and 12,000 children in the UK.

The week consists of a number of awareness days including:

World Arthritis Day
World Spine Day
World Trauma Day
World Paediatric Bone & Joint Day
World Osteoporosis Day

Early detection, proper treatment, and lifestyle changes can often prevent or manage musculoskeletal disorders. If this is something that affects you, please feel free to make an appointment for prompt treatment and advice.

Paul and daughter Abbie completed the Serpentine swim on Saturday 20th September. Although the weather was better than forecast, the water was still really cold! 🥶

Despite the water temperature, it was a fantastic day and we came away with a real sense of achievement.

This week is Migraine Awareness Week.

Anyone that has experienced migraines will know just how painful and debilitating they can be. As we know, there are many possible causes of migraines including hormonal changes, stress, changes in sleep patterns, certain foods and drinks (including alcohol and caffeine), missing meals, dehydration, weather changes, and sensory stimuli like bright lights/loud noises; however other causes can include neck stiffness, poor posture, trauma, and joint disorders.

Osteopathy can be particularly helpful for people whose migraines are linked to musculoskeletal issues, such as those listed above and also neck tension, poor posture, or stiffness in the joints of the upper back.

Depending on your history and symptoms, some of the ways we can treat migraines include releasing muscle tension, improving spinal mobility and alignment, improving circulation, cranial techniques, addressing posture, trigger identification and lifestyle advice.

If migraines are impacting your life, please do not hesitate to get in touch; we would love to help.

It is Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week.

The symptoms of RA are not always visible and can include:

Joint pain
Swollen joints
Stiffness
Warmth and redness of the joints
Numbness and tingling
Fatigue
Low-grade fever
Weight loss
Rheumatoid nodules under the skin around affected joints

If you experience a combination of any of the above symptoms or are already coping with RA, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Osteopathy is often used to reduce the tension, swelling and pain caused by RA by using gentle techniques - increasing your range of movement, your flexibility and reducing associated stiffness.

Excess acid and reflux symptoms experienced by your baby can understandably be distressing for both of you.

An osteopath can help with baby reflux by using gentle, hands-on techniques to release tension in the body, particularly around the diaphragm, which can improve digestive function and reduce reflux symptoms.

You can support your baby at home by holding them upright after feeds for 20-30 minutes, feeding smaller amounts more frequently, and winding to try to release swallowed air with a lovely burp!

It is crucial to consult a GP or other medical professional if your baby’s reflux symptoms are persistent, worsen, or are accompanied by signs like poor weight gain, forceful vomiting, blood in stool, or respiratory issues.

If we can help, please feel free to contact us. We always love seeing our tiniest patients. 💛
