Today was a hot one, so what did we do?

We made sure to hydrate the home! 💧☀️

With the hot weather approaching fast, it is so important to keep hydrated. Throughout the day we encouraged everyone to enjoy plenty of refreshing drinks, helping residents stay cool, comfortable, and healthy during the warm temperatures.

Hydration is especially important in warmer weather, and today was a great reminder that even small sips throughout the day can make a big difference. 🥤😊

☕🍰 Full house at this week’s Coffee Morning!

A big thank you to Curtis, our volunteer student from Sir John Lawes School, Harpenden, who helped support our weekly bingo session alongside our fantastic volunteer Nigel. 🎉

With homemade cake, plenty of tea and coffee, and lots of laughter, it’s safe to say everyone had a wonderful morning!

We had a wonderful week of activities, and some of the residents played Dominoes game, including a fantastic turnout for our ‘Sing Along’ session. The Gentlemen’s Club was full of fun and laughter, and the hand massages were very relaxing and soothing. Here are a few pictures capturing some special moments from the week.

First Walking Wednesday of the year 🌿🚶‍♀️
We’re so lucky to have such beautiful green space right on our doorstep, full of nature and wildlife to enjoy 🐦🌼

On Yesterdays stroll we discovered the sweetest little book nook 📚 a place where you can take a book and leave one behind for someone else to enjoy. Considering our Gwyneth used to be a librarian, this was a very fitting little surprise 💚✨

Pop along to the Salvation Army or the Harpenden trust

Dementia Action Week 2026 takes place across the UK from May 18th – 24th.

Harpenden Town Council is committed to supporting people in the local community living with dementia. By partnering with The Salvation Army Harpenden and The Harpenden Trust, we are actively supporting Dementia Action Week through a range of dementia-friendly social activities across Harpenden.

In addition, we are providing helpful resources, including advice, key contact numbers, and guidance on how we can all work together to support some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Keep an eye on our social media channels throughout the week or check the calendar on our website for details of the events. Further information can be found at https://www.harpenden.gov.uk/dementia-friendly-town

Harpenden Town Council is proud to have been awarded a silver dementia-friendly accreditation by Memory Support Hertfordshire for our work in community engagement, training staff and facilities.

Our Dementia Friendly Church Service was a wonderful time of reflection and connection.⛪

It was lovely to welcome lots of new residents who joined in for the first time, sharing in the familiar hymns and prayers.

Seeing everyone come together, singing along and enjoying the service, was wonderful.

We look forward to many more special services together 💜

Today we proudly remember Victory in Europe Day and honoured the sacrifices made by so many. ❤️

Residents and families came together at our Best Friends Café for a lovely cream tea afternoon filled with remembrance, music, and shared memories. We listened to Winston Churchill’s famous speech and enjoyed nostalgic songs from Vera Lynn. 🎶

It was wonderful to hear residents sharing their memories and reflections from that time, along with taking part in a fun quiz and discussion about the life of Winston Churchill.

A truly meaningful day of remembrance and togetherness. 🌺
