7/11 breathing is a technique that I teach clients who suffer with stress or anxiety. It’s a very simple exercise:
You breathe in slowly for the count of 7 and exhale slowly for the count of 11. If you’re not comfortable with that then 4/7 or similar, just as long as the out breath is longer than the in breath.
A client of mine who suffered with claustrophobia recently discovered the benefits of using this technique after an eye operation. The procedure was carried out whilst she was conscious and her face was completely covered by a sheet, using this simple but effective breathing technique, she remained calm and in control.

In need of a good night’s sleep? Here are just a few tips & hypnotic techniques to help you:

* Keep a note pad and pen next to your bed to write things down.

* Have your last cup of caffeine in the afternoon.

* Limit your alcohol intake - it takes roughly 1 hour for your body to process 1 unit.

* Count back very slowly from 300 to 0 in ones (300..299…298 etc), if you get that far! This incredibly boring exercise occupies the brain and stops the mind from wandering.

* Stop looking at your clock, this can increase the feeling of anxiety that you're still awake.

* Engage with your imagination and visualise a box in which you can place all those worries and place your box on an imaginary shelf in a cupboard for you to deal with during the day.

* Use a body scan exercise: start by either tightening and relaxing the muscles in your toes or in your head and work through the groups of muscles in your body. Head to toes or toes to head, whichever way works best for you.
