We would like to inform you of some important updates regarding the use of resident photographs, particularly in relation to evolving guidance around consent, marketing, and social media.
Photographs taken during our activities play a valuable role in capturing the daily lives of our residents, showcasing our meaningful programmes for regulatory purposes (such as CQC), and sharing special moments with families and friends. They also contribute to promoting the welcoming environment of our care homes through platforms like Facebook.
However, we now recognise that the external use of these photographs is not always in the best interests of every individual, particularly those who do not have the capacity to provide informed consent. Under the Mental Capacity Act, a “best interest” decision is something that is essential to look after a person and we have decided that displaying photos on social media is not a necessary part of care.
As a result, we will no longer be sharing such images publicly for residents who are unable to provide their own consent. We appreciate that family and friends enjoy seeing their loved ones partaking in activities and while this will not change, we will, however, only be using photos on social media which highlight what kind of activities are on offer and showing people having fun, but only the faces of residents with capacity to consent will be visible.
We will continue to take photographs for internal purposes – and display them in areas such as notice boards and photo albums - to celebrate our residents’ participation in daily activities.
If you would like to receive these photos directly, we will be happy to share them with you privately. Please contact the Manager with your preferred contact method (e.g. email or WhatsApp) and any relevant details.
