I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard this.

So often, when I meet people for the first time and they ask what I do, I get this response when I tell them. Often, they then go on to tell me the story of their traumatic birth, or how they felt they had no say in what happened to them.

If you’re pregnant, NOW is the time to take control of your birth experience and learn some tools to make it the most positive experience possible. Don’t wait until afterwards as by then it’s too late 💜

My Hypnobirthing Masterclasses are all live for the rest of the year, so whenever your baby is due there’s a Masterclass for you! Or we can arrange a one to one. Check out the hypnobirthing link in my bio.

A pregnant friend of mine who is unsure how she wants to give birth recently said to me “I know what you’ll say…”

It turns out she assumed I would be 100% pro vaginal birth because I teach hypnobirthing. In reality, I am 100% pro whatever kind of birth YOU want, and my aim is to help you feel empowered in YOUR choices. Whether that’s a free birth in the woods or a planned caesarean.

There is no right way to give birth. But there might be a way that feels right for you. And I’m here to support that 🤍

The more you know, the more in control you are likely to feel. Yes, birth can be unpredictable, but knowing what your preferences would be in different circumstances and learning how to take charge of decision making in unexpected moments will make you feel so much more prepared!

The main things I hope people gain from my hypnobirthing masterclass are the confidence to question things and the tools to help them to make informed decisions, and of course techniques to keep them lovely and calm throughout!

If you’re worried about giving birth, hypnobirthing can be SO helpful to help you to feel more confident and positive. If you want to come along to my July or August sessions, there are just two spaces available on each, so get in touch now!

Your baby doesn’t know if you’ve marked a big star on your calendar on the day you’re expecting them to arrive.

That day that was given to you as an estimate, based on three estimated measurements taken at a scan that was estimated to be around 12 weeks.

It really is all guess work, based on assumptions that everyone’s menstrual cycle is the same length, that everyone ovulates at a set time, and that all babies are exactly the same size at 12 weeks’ gestation.

In the UK we focus on 40 weeks as the big day, but if you lived in France your ‘due date’ would be set at 41 weeks.

A pregnancy is considered full term anywhere between 37-42 weeks. Which means you’re not technically ‘overdue’ until 42+1. And even then, don’t forget those dates are estimates!

Induction of labour is now offered at 41 weeks as standard in Harrogate, even if there are no complications whatsoever. I can teach you some great techniques for making sure you are making fully informed decisions every step of the way - just get in touch!

Remember, your baby doesn’t have a calendar in there. They’re probably pretty comfy and they’re waiting for just the right time to make their way into your world.

Have you ever seen a cat give birth?

They find a safe, cosy and private space, far away from prying eyes, snuggle down in the darkness and that’s where the magic happens!

It’s easy to forget that we’re mammals too, and what works for cats (and pretty much ALL mammals) can also work wonders for us.

Less than 3% of babies in the UK are born at home, so more than 97% of pregnant parents leave the privacy and comfort of their homes and head out into the hustle and bustle and bright lights of the outside world to give birth.

Giving birth at home is a wonderful way to promote the cocktail of birthing hormones to help labour to progress efficiently, but if you do decide to have your baby in hospital, creating a cosy birth environment that feels as private, comfortable and homely as possible is super important to help things to progress as smoothly as possible.

So… be more cat! Build a nest of blankets and pillows, dim the lights, ask for as much privacy as you feel you need… We really could learn a lot from our furry little friends 🐈

Honestly, I know this so well! I had two summer babies and being heavily pregnant in this heat is no joke.

Here are my top tips for staying cool:
☀️ Try to keep activity levels outside in the sun to a minimum if you can.
☀️ Stay hydrated! Ice lollies, or just sucking on ice cubes, can be a great cooling way to do this.
☀️ Try putting your feet in a bowl of cool water to cool you down and stay in the shade as much as possible.

If all else fails, just lie on your bed in your pants, with the curtains closed and a fan blowing straight at you… that may or may not be how I spent the last few weeks of my first pregnancy 🤭

I’m dreadful at keeping up with all the “world *something* days”! So although this is a day late, the sentiment is fully there!

In the UK we have the right to breastfeed anywhere we are legally allowed to be, but I know from experience that it doesn’t always feel easy, especially when you’re first starting out.

Some people find they feel more confident if they have supportive people with them or if they are in a place they feel very familiar with. Others like to start their public breastfeeding journey at a breastfeeding support group, surrounded by others who are doing exactly the same.

Try breastfeeding at home in front of the mirror and you will probably be surprised how little of the breast you can actually see! Lots of breastfeeding mamas look like they’re just having a snuggle!
