🦷 Harrogate Oral Health Team: Everyday Oral Health Made Simple

Healthy habits = a healthier smile. Here’s what adults need to know:

🪥 Brush Twice a Day
Brush for 2 minutes, morning and night, using fluoride toothpaste.

🧴 Mouthwash: When & When Not to Use It
✔ Use mouthwash at a different time to brushing (e.g., after lunch).
✘ Don’t use it straight after brushing it washes away the fluoride that protects your teeth.
Choose an alcohol-free, fluoride mouthwash for best results.

🧵 Clean Between Your Teeth Daily
Interdental brushes are best for most adults use the largest size that fits comfortably.
If the spaces are too tight, floss is a great alternative.
This is essential for gum health and preventing decay between teeth.

🦷 Regular Dental & Hygiene Visits
See your dentist and dental hygienist regularly to prevent issues, keep gums healthy, and spot early changes.
Personalised advice = healthier long-term outcomes.

Healthy habits today. Healthier smiles tomorrow. 💙

Diet and Oral Health

A balanced diet is key for both overall wellbeing and a healthy mouth. The Eatwell Guide shows how to build this balance, with most of our food coming from fruits, vegetables and starchy carbohydrates, alongside protein, dairy and a small amount of healthy fats.

Crisps, biscuits, cakes and chocolate aren’t part of the Eatwell Guide as they’re not needed in our diet, so they’re best kept as occasional treats.

With flu season around the corner, eating well matters even more. Fueling your body with a variety of vitamins and minerals helps support your immune system and keeps your oral health on track while everything else is going around.
