Pontefract Hospital becomes official GIRFT Elective Orthopaedic Hub.

We’re delighted to report that GIRFT (Getting it Right First Time) has awarded official Elective Orthopaedic Hub status to Pontefract Hospital, part of Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust for which YKC’s Jim Newman is Clinical Service Unit Director.

Jim says: “I’m delighted the hub has received this recognition from GIRFT. Getting our elective work into a single site and becoming a centre of excellence has been a passion project of mine for many years, and is the result of the collective efforts of an extremely talented team. Everyone at the hub can feel enormously proud of this achievement.”

On Friday I joined surgeons from across Yorkshire at the regional MCT Soft Tissue Meeting, where the surgeon guest speaker was Raghbir Khakha from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, who gave an excellent update on joint preservation techniques.
