The poor weather is not helping our lower backs at the moment ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

With poor weather usually comes more time inside and less time moving, which means more lower back stiffness and symptoms ๐Ÿ˜ž

Here is a fantastic sequence we have been doing in classes with the foam rollers this week ๐Ÿ™Œ this sequence can be done with a cushion, blocks or some other form of elevation, but the solid feel of the roller is really nice across that sacral area of your lower back ๐Ÿฅฐ

Lots of clients have reported instantly easier feeling lower backs following this exercise sequence so give it a try!

- Repeated single leg reaches, getting the heel as close to the floor as you can, with both legs
- Repeated single leg straight leg lift/lower, getting the heel as close to the floor as you can, with both legs
- Alternating and reciprocal single leg reaches, getting the heel as close to the floor as you can from the double table top position
- Straight leg scissor swaps, getting each heel as close to the floor as you can

Itโ€™s inevitable that peoplesโ€™ routines, both personal and exercise, look at little different over the Christmas and New Year period ๐Ÿ˜…

I personally fully endorse taking the time to have a break from the routine and any intensity of training to give both your mind and body a rest period ๐Ÿฅฐ

The main downside is that with a break in exercise routine, people usually experience some increased stiffness in their bodies, not just from increase sitting periods but also joint aching from the colder weather ๐Ÿ˜…

Itโ€™s therefore really important as we launch the New Year to get lots of mobility work in to restore as much good function to your body as possible before you start loading too heavy again ๐Ÿ‘

This move has been a personal favourite that Iโ€™ve taught in the classes this week so integrate this into your mobility work to launch your New Year ๐Ÿ™Œ

This is our feature sequence for Pilates attendees this week! Itโ€™s a lot harder than it looks to keep that foam roller stable๐Ÿ˜…

1. Split lifts up/down
2. Add in a raise of the foam roller leg
3. Add in a raise of the floor leg - if you can! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great work for the posterior chain, with particular isolation of that hamstring! Also a good proprioceptive task to land your foot on that roller!

1. Normal version
2. Standing leg on the bosu
3. Plyo hop between each rep

Each version brings different benefits for your body to the table, so ideally try combo all 3 ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜‰

My primary goal when I started properly strength training this September was to do an un-assisted pull-up one day ๐Ÿคž

I was dismayed when I took my hubbie bouldering and I couldnโ€™t hang from a rock at all - my shoulders just couldnโ€™t take my body weight at all ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Well TODAY I met that goal ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ I am so thrilled ๐Ÿ˜„ onwards and upwards to build my reps and strength now ๐Ÿ’ช
