Marathon season is in full swing and there's lots of local events like Knaresborough Bedrace taking place in the next few weeks. Sports massage can help your race prep and recovery, so give us a call to see how we can help. Everyone is different in terms of how they react, so our top tip would be don't leave it until the last minute to get those niggles sorted!
Sports/Deep tissue massage can also help you non sporty types, if you've got neck and back pain from work or sore hamstrings from sorting the garden out, don't feel you need to be training for the Paris Olympics to book in. 😉👍

Good Luck to all those taking part in the Great North Run this weekend! Remember, don't do something new on race day that you haven't tried before. Wearing your daughter's trainers was one particularly spectacular fail we had to deal with the consequences of one year! 🙈👟

We're down in Birmingham today, and again tomorrow, attending Therapy Expo for some in person CPD and to check out what's new in the Therapy world. I may have bought some new toys, more on that later! 😜

Some great sessions today on massage for people living with cancer and those with Long Covid, as well as the usual injury and rehab updates. It's also been nice to catch up with some Therapy colleagues I've not seen for a couple of years, and I even got my evebrows done at the OT show next door! 😉

I should also point out that it was a Covid secure event, with everyone needing to provide a negative lateral flow test or NHS Covid Pass to gain entry. I've also been wearing a FFP2 mask as an added precaution and will test daily for a week when I get back, just to be sure. It is possible to do these things now, with a vaccine plus additional mitigations approach to reduce the risks.

Wearing a different hat today! Helping our hard working local GPs vaccinate 1400 people against flu in Ripon today. Our Rotary Club, along with lots of other community volunteers, have been helping run Vaccination Centres throughout the Pandemic and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

There is still time to get a flu jab if you're eligible, and do your bit to reduce pressure on the NHS and Social Care system this winter. Flu may not be serious for you but it can be fatal for others. Every vaccine administered is a break in the chain of transmission. Your GPs, Covid Vaccine Centres and local Pharmacists have all been offering flu shots, and lots of people are eligible to get one for free this year. If you're not eligible but would still like one, they can be purchased for around £14-15 at your local Pharmacy. Please also get your Covid Boosters when invited, or eligible to book. The third jab is really important for topping up and producing a long term quality immune response. They are very safe, well tested and greatly reduce the risk of severe disease as well as long term complications such as Long Covid. They also reduce your risk of passing the infection on to others.

Vaccines have many benefits beyond your personal immunity, their overall effectiveness increases when there is high levels of community uptake, which is important for those who are immune suppressed, such as those who have received organ transplants, those on cancer treatment and those who have an autoimmune disease. Let's do the right thing to protect one another. 😷💪

It's just over a week to go until we head off to the south coast to complete the Burgh Island swim in aid of men's cancer charity The Chestnut Appeal. 47,000 cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed every year in the UK, that's 129 men a day affected. Pe**le cancer is rarer with around 630 cases a year and it mostly affects men over 60, but men in their 30s and 40s can also be affected. Testicular cancer also most commonly affects younger men aged 15 and 49 years. It's really important that you check yourself regularly guys and go to your GP early if you're unsure about something, because these conditions are often much easier to treat in the early stages.
