Be gentle with yourself, if you need to modify and support your movement or exercise go ahead. There is absolutely no shame in that!

Pushing through mobility or exercise while you feel uncomfortable really do not achieve any benefit. Your nervous system will just put the breaks on a little bit more.

Know when to push and know when to support and adapt. Don't just be kind to others be kind to your body.

😊🙏

If you get the basics right in your training then everything feels easier and more balanced. Train smarter not harder.

I was captured by the trees in my garden today.. Growing from such strong foundations and roots from just the soil beneath. Our bodies are the same. We develop, activate and improve our strength, power and muscular resilience from the balanced foundations of health and fitness. Just like a tree we grow physically and mentally when we feel balanced and don't over complicate our training.

Doing the basics well...that is where the growth lies. Train smart not harder, mobilise, get up, play, hydrate and recover.😁😊👣🤸‍♀️🚶‍♂️🤹‍♂️🥛🛌

Advice from our Physio team about exercising during lockdown. Work out smarter not harder!

Advice from our Physio team about exercising during lockdown. Work out smarter not harder!

When we have one opportunity a day to exercise it's easy to cram it and do double volume or harder intensity of whatever we are doing.

We feel obliged to undo the sitting we have been doing throughout the day and there is generally an expectation of "must stay fit" "must keep moving" .

Movement is so needed😊 and exercise is great😊 but make sure your exercise is varied or at least at different intensities. The 20:80 rule is a pretty good guide to follow...20 percent high intensity and 80 percent lower intensity work. Recovery is also key.

Don't go from zero to hero every single day...that is the zone in which the tissue breakdown occurs. We are already seeing a steep rise in running injuries after only 3 weeks of lockdown.

Enjoy your exercise but be kind to your body. It is the vessel allowing you that wonderful exercise experience in the first place. 😊

Running advice from our Physiotherapy team! Less is more and recovery is key to get better and fitter at running!Enjoy!

Running advice from our Physiotherapy team! Less is more and recovery is key to get better and fitter at running!

Enjoy!

Running is a great way to get you moving during lockdown but also helpful to clear the head after a long day indoors or in front of the computer.

If you are fairly new to running or you do not run often then it is important to know that building up slowly is crucial to protect the tendons in our ankles, knee joints, hip joints and lower back/pelvis from running related overload.

Not every run should be 5km against the clock! If you have done a longer run the next run should be shorter or less intense. Allow your body to recover from the impact for at least 2 days. Go for a walk or try a body weight exercise routine, do some Yoga or Pilates.

Recovery is key to be able to improve and allow your muscles, tendons and joints to adapt to the impact.

Look after your body at this time, be gentle and kind. Use your hour a day to improve your body by maintaining a balanced, progressive exercise routine.🙏😊
