At MOTIONrehab, recovery starts with a tailored therapy programme, designed around each client's abilities, goals, and engagement.

Neil attends MOTIONrehab following a cerebral haemorrhage, which resulted in weakness in his left arm, alongside other complex health challenges. As Neil finds isolated left arm rehabilitation difficult to focus on, his programme uses bilateral, functional tasks to support engagement and recovery. This approach allows Neil to work on his left arm without becoming overly focused on it - supporting improved concentration, confidence, and movement quality.

In today's session, Neil combined upper body strengthening in the gym with advanced robotic rehabilitation with PABLO.

Using the PABLO multi-board, Neil worked in sitting without back support, engaging both arms through the handles, extending through his upper limbs and transferring weight as required.

Interactive on-screen prompts encouraged automatic responses, helping Neil remain engaged while improving.

• Left arm use without conscious over-focus.
• Sitting tolerance and postural control.
• Upper limb strength and coordination.
• Functional movement in a meaningful, motivating way.

By combining exercise-based rehabilitation with state-of-the-art robotic technology, we deliver therapy that is intensive, engaging, and tailored - helping clients like Neil progress toward improved function and independence.

The difference one device can make.

This client lives with MS and experiences foot drop, where the foot doesn’t lift properly during walking - making movement harder and more tiring.

The OML PACE Drop Foot FES is a Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) device designed to support foot drop caused by neurological conditions such as MS, stroke, spinal cord injury or cerebral palsy.

By delivering gentle electrical stimulation at the right moment in each step, the PACE helps lift the foot, restore a more natural walking pattern and reduce the risk of trips and falls. Over time, the repeated muscle activation can help improve strength, reduce tightness and support the brain in relearning movement.

✔️ Better foot clearance
✔️ Smoother, more natural walking
✔️ Reduced effort, spasticity and fatigue
✔️ Increased safety and confidence

This client reports her walking confidence improves from 2/10 without FES to 9/10 with it on.

At MOTIONrehab, we’re proud to be an NHS outreach clinic for FES. All our clinics provide FES assessments and support with NHS funding where available.

Regaining movement after injury or neurological conditions depends on intensive, task-specific practice.

PABLO is one of the advanced rehabilitation technologies used at MOTIONrehab’s flagship centres to support high-repetition movement retraining and improved functional outcomes.

PABLO is a motion sensor and biofeedback device designed to help clients relearn upper and lower limb movement. Its versatile design allows therapy to be completed in sitting, kneeling or standing - supporting balance, stability and functional movement practice.

Using interactive, high-repetition exercises, PABLO provides real-time feedback to encourage active participation and support neuroplasticity. The system enables both active and assisted movement, allowing therapy to progress objectively as ability improves.

How PABLO can help:
✔️ Provides feedback on performance and helps develop motor control.
✔️ Can be used with any therapy exercise.
✔️ Incorporation of games promotes engagement and motivation.
✔️ Builds strength, coordination and control for daily tasks
✔️ Delivers engaging therapy with real-time feedback
✔️ Tracks progress objectively to guide treatment
✔️ Suitable for neurological & orthopaedic rehabilitation

What’s possible after a traumatic brain injury with the right rehabilitation?

Jake sustained a traumatic brain injury following a motorbike accident in Thailand, leaving him with reduced balance and poor coordination that significantly affected his ability to walk.

Now attending MOTIONrehab Hull, Jake is working towards a clear goal: independent walking. His tailored rehabilitation programme is built around intensive, goal-led, task-specific training, including:

🩵 BALO to rebuild standing ability, balance, core strength and confidence in upright posture
🩵 LEXO Robotic Gait Trainer to practise high-repetition, supported walking that restores gait patterns, improves strength and endurance, and drives neuroplasticity

This combination is helping Jake safely practise standing and walking with precision, consistency and measurable progress - translating directly into real-world function.

Jake says:
“Since coming to MOTIONrehab, I have found that it has helped me massively to progress to be able to walk again. I get so much support and encouragement from the staff… I am very keen on my fitness which is also helping me to walk again.”

We’re proud to support Jake’s recovery - and to be the only clinics in Yorkshire and Humberside offering robotic gait training, setting the standard for specialist brain injury rehabilitation.

After a stroke, even small movements can feel challenging at first.

Here’s how we incorporate stroke rehabilitation to help rebuild trust in the body through safe, supported weight transfer and movement.

This is Mick in a recent session with Tom at our Hull MOTIONrehab Clinic, where they’re progressing the difficulty of offloading his left side to build confidence and power through his right leg.

Following his stroke, the goal is to improve the quality of Mick’s walking and support greater independence by progressing from static holds to more dynamic movement onto the right leg.

What does recovery look like after stroke?

Lesley experienced a stroke in March 2024, affecting strength and function on her left side. Before her stroke, she was active - regularly cycling and running, including over the Humber Bridge.
Her goal: get active again and return to cycling and running.

At MOTIONrehab Hull, Lesley began a tailored rehabilitation programme combining:

• Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
• Specialist physiotherapy
• LEXO robotic gait training

This evidence-based approach uses intensive, repetitive, task-specific practice to improve posture, balance, stepping and both lower and upper limb function - supporting neuroplasticity and accelerating recovery.

After 10 months, Lesley has achieved:
✅ Increased power and flexibility on her affected side
✅ Improved confidence using her left hand
✅ Greater exercise tolerance
✅ Increased independence

In January, she reached a major milestone - cycling over the Humber Bridge, something she couldn’t do this time last year.

Lesley’s journey shows what’s possible with specialist, evidence-based rehabilitation.

Recovering from a traumatic brain injury? Every step forward starts with the right rehabilitation.

After sustaining a significant traumatic brain injury to the left side of his brain in a motorbike accident in 2019, Oli was left with complex challenges affecting the right side of his body - significant weakness, limited movement, muscle stiffness and tightness that causes him substantial pain.

Since 2021, Oli has been attending MOTIONrehab as part of his ongoing rehabilitation.
His goal is simple but powerful: to improve his walking and regain independence.

Using our LEXO Robotic Gait Trainer, Oli focuses on improving the quality of his movement - strengthening the muscles used for walking, increasing range of movement, and developing better posture in standing and walking.

The LEXO provides precise, repetitive movement to encourage neuroplasticity, helping retrain more natural gait patterns while building strength and endurance.

And the progress speaks for itself.

Over the last 6 months, Oli has reached a major milestone - stepping his right leg through independently after a long period of needing support just to move his foot.

Rehabilitation is now focused on improving posture and reducing reliance on external support, such as his walking stick, by practising tasks that place more body weight through his right leg.

Advanced robotic therapy is helping Oli build strength, confidence, and control - supporting meaningful recovery every step of the way.
