Last week, as Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced his review into the safety of maternity services, I met up with Jo Hewson, a private midwife, or doula. You can find out all about our conversation in my latest blog

Thirty-one years a ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Abbie. My pregnancy wasn’t entirely without complications, but I felt safe, secure, and confident that I had the best possible care within the NHS.

Excruciating pain stopped Rosalind doing the simplest things. A few sessions of acupuncture to treat her knee pain helped her get back on track.

As a keen (but not talented) singer with the Stray Notes Choir, I had a fabulous time upskilling with the Yorkshire Voice Collective this morning!

The Yorkshire Voice Collective is a collaboration of practitioners with an interest in vocal issues.

So many issues can affect the voice - stress, posture, and reflux are just a few potential problems.

The Yorkshire Voice Collective team, brought together by vocal coach Lily and Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist Victoria, includes these practitioners -

- Consultant ENT surgeon
- Physiotherapist
- Cognative Behaviour Therapist
- Dietician
- Voice and breath therapist

And an acupuncturist (that's me! 🙂)

Here's part of Andy's review......

Although the weather at the start of my treatment wasn’t a cold enough test, through December it has been, and it’s remarkable how much a difference it’s made!! I have gone from fingers being completely numb, frozen, and losing all circulation to what feels like full circulation now in my hands. I can go on long walks with my family in the cold - something I simply couldn’t do before. I was stunned at the difference it has made from only a few sessions.....

Acupuncture isn't just about the days in clinic - we spend a fair bit of time studying too.

Today, we're delving into the work of Wang Ju-Yi, who was a professor of Acupuncture at Beijing University.

Dr Wang was all about the channels. Acupuncture channels may seem like a weird concept, but they can be felt on the surface of the body.

Looking at the channels is just one part of your diagnosis, we do lots of other things too!

I recently braved my first wild swim—it was chilly, exhilarating, and surprisingly energising! While Wim Hof swears by the benefits of cold exposure, is it really for everyone? Dive into my latest blog to see how the Chinese healthcare perspective stacks up against Wim’s philosophy - there's a link in the comments.

Many years ago I was a student yoga teacher at Mandala Yoga Ashram. I loved the place (still do!).

The course was amazing, but one thing perplexed me. They kept talking about energy and energies. What on earth did they mean?

I went on a mission to find out.

Back home, I asked every yoga teacher I knew. Every answer made me more confused. So, back at the ashram, I decided to go to the main man, Swami Nischalananda. And this is the simple answer he gave me.

Energy is a concept that runs throughout many eastern traditions including yoga and acupuncture. It's often thought of as something a bit weird, a bit mystical, a bit ....well, not real.

But energy, or Qi as we call it in acupuncture, it is a neat way of explaining how the body functions holistically. Of explaining the constant flow of changes that occur, and how these can impact on health.

Energy may seem mysterious and magical, but it's not unreal. Ask a nuclear physicist for the western view. I did - and I got exactly the same answer !

Visit the ashram website for a spot more wisdom. I’ll pop a link in the comments.

Chinese Medicine has long recognised suppressed emotions as a cause of illness, and recognising and having an outlet fo emotions is so important for health.

So it’s great that Full Circle Funerals have created an online gallery to allow an outlet for those experiencing loss. Here’s another photo from the online gallery.

If you would like you art to be displayed on the online gallery then please do get in touch with Full Circle Funerals - I’ll pop a link to their website in the comments.
