Constructive meeting with our Harrogate MP Andrew Jones about the state of dentistry in the UK. I outlined many of the problems related to the NHS contract and access to emergency care. It is essential that the universally-discredited 2006 contract is ditched in favour of a more preventive and overall health - based approach, that also pays NHS dentists fairly for the work they do. "Putting the mouth back in the body"! Otherwise dentists will unfortunately continue to leave the NHS in droves. There is not even capacity in the private sector to pick up the deficit. I hope I managed to get some good points across. He did ask a question at PMQ's about dentistry recently, and does seem to have a genuine interest. - Richard, Swan Dental.

Dear Patients

It has been way too long since we connected with you all and the picture above of the daily gown wash during the covid pandemic reminded me of what a busy few years we have had. Regulations have relaxed now and the gowns and respirator masks are safely stored away... long may they stay in their box!!

There have been many changes at the Practice.We welcomed Dentist Danny Elliott in June 2020 who has now become a much treasured member of the team. We also had Fi and Tori join us as dental nurses, many of you will now have had the pleasure of meeting them. We also welcomed Jules and Lisa to cover while Emma (hygienist) was on maternity leave and they have stayed on with us thankfully, as baby number 2 is due to arrive in August!

On reception Rachel has joined us for 3 days a week to help me as Gill ponders retirement in the near future (having over 30+ years with us).

We are also delighted to welcome a new dentist to the Practice Dr Amy Swales in June and she will be working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Amy particularly enjoys helping anxious/nervous patients so if you need help with this Amy is the lady for you.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Covid-19 Update

Thank you to all our lovely patients for all your support so far during these challenging times.

Whilst the Government have relaxed its covid restricton's from Monday 19th July we will in line with advice from Public Health England and our professional assosciations be continuing with our current operating procedures.

Patients will be asked to wear a mask (unless exempt), sanitise their hands and we will be using separate waiting areas to help with social distancing.

There have been no changes to operating procedures for the team and you will continue to see us wearing advanced Personal Protective Equipment as required during aerosol generating procedures.

Finally I'd like to thank all our team for their hard work this last year and for digging deep when things have got tough, it's not easy wearing full PPE in the heat. You have also all made sacrifices and been extra cautious outside of work to protect each other and our patients. You are all incredible and have done it with a smile behind your masks!

LOCKDOWN 2... THE RETURN... Dear patients of Swan. As things stand, we expect to continue operating as normal. Since March, we have invested heavily in PPE and infection control procedures, that were already very good. We are following all the relevant government guidelines. We do not know if our guidelines will change in the coming days and will of course let you know if so. Please continue to attend your scheduled appointments. Naturally we understand if you have been advised to shield or have other reasons not to attend such as childcare. Please speak to our friendly team if you have any concerns. Dear Patients,

Well what a 6 months! We would like to thank you all for your support and well wishes, this has really raised our spirits and kept us going.

We are all looking forward to a well deserved break. I'd like to say a big thank you to all my colleagues for all their hard work and dedication to keeping all our patients safe and of course each other. We have really learnt the importance of TEAM this year and there have been plenty of laughs along the way despite the circumstances.



Our Christmas hours are:

Christmas Eve 9-1pm

Closed from 26th December -28th December

Tuesday 29th December 9-1pm

Wednesday 30th December 9-1pm

New Years Eve 9-1pm

During this time we will be doing emergencies only.

There is also an emergency out of hours service over Christmas but this is for severe dental emergencies only and due to Covid 19 this may mean advice only.You can access this service by calling the Practice number 01423 503573.

As the next few months evolve we will keep you updated with any changes to our services or if we need to change any procedures when attending appointments.We don't envisage we will be asked to close again.

January is already looking a very busy month so please bear with us as we are still catching up on treatments. There is approximately a 3 week wait for routine examinations but as always we will endeavour to see all emergencies on the day for temporary treatment and to relieve pain.

So as 2020 draws to a close we'd like to wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year and may 2021 be kinder to us all.

We will be OPEN AS NORMAL during lockdown. We are classed as an essential medical service so please attend your appointments as normal. We have all the correct PPE and cleaning regimes. Dental practices are one of the cleanest places you could be! :-)
