As more and more of us are returning to the offices, why not take this opportunity to look at how sustainable your workplace is? 🌏⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Here are some small but important things to think about - ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
• Do you have to throw away items so you can have your lunch or a hot cuppa? ☕️ instead ask your work to replace them with reusables. You could also support local charities by sourcing what you need from charity shops 🛍 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
• have an environmental champion- someone to look at how to improve your workplaces sustainability⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•encourage water fountains, reusable bottles ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
• look at the way your workplace deals with waste- are they able to separate their waste ? ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Hope you find these tips useful! They can also be applied to home life too! ⁣⁣

This weekend marks the re-opening of a lot of things. Which is great! ⁣

But after such a long time since things were normal, are we forgetting about our plastic free ways? ⁣

If you’re out and about this weekend, don’t forget to bring your reusable bags, bring your reusable coffee cups and ask if you can have them filled up (some might say no). Be prepared and bring water with you to stop the need for single use water being bought! ⁣

Back to work? Plan meals and bring your packed lunch to both help the environment and your pocket! ⁣

What else do you bring with you to reduce your plastic waste? ⁣

Hi Guys 👋🏻 ⁣

It has been awhile, with everything going on it is important to look after your self and to recognise when you need a break from things. The past few months I have lost my mojo with a lot of things! But I’m hoping to find my Happy Pickers Vibe once more. ⁣🌿

It started this morning with my litter pic on my morning walk 😡 ! ⁣

Anyway... plastic free July is here ! ⁣🥤❌

I will post some information on how to help our environment over the next couple of weeks. ⁣

But to start with... why not support your locals and shop plastic free. ⁣🛍

Check out our amazing stores such as:

For those who read my ‘mindful walk’ post, will have seen I talked about how spring is springing up, the trees are changing and growing their leaves. ⁣

And today on my walk the same tree is nearly there ! I know there have been a lot of people not following guidelines, but even though it is really tough ... with patience we will reach this point. We will reach the point where we can move around again and flourish.💐🌳🌿⁣

Be patient everyone, change will once again arrive 😘⁣

How is everyone getting on?

Have you been able to get outside and enjoy spring? One thing I have found helpful on my walks this week is becoming mindful of what is going on around me. One of which is paying attention to the buds on the trees.

It is a sign of change, a sign of new life, a sign of something magical happening. Yes we are all experiencing change at the moment but just like these leaves in autumn 🍂 things will change again and the process of regrowth will begin.

Our situation will change again, we will regrow. It just takes time, nurture and patience. But just like these leaves, they will get there and bud into beautiful leaves 🍃💐🌳

So we are nearly a week into official stay at home guidelines. ⁣⁣How is everyone getting on? ⁣⁣So I’m on my second week,...

So we are nearly a week into official stay at home guidelines. ⁣

How is everyone getting on? ⁣

So I’m on my second week, the first week I have to be honest I found hard. A lack of routine is something i struggle with.⁣
I was setting myself tasks and goals but just not motivated to do them. I’d then feel bad if I didn’t do them... however this week I am beginning to accept this. ⁣

We have to remember, we are creatures of habit. On average it takes around 6 weeks for a smoker to stop smoking... and how long does it take to loose those pounds? Changing a habit, changing our daily routine to something so restrictive is going to take time. ⁣

It is also important to look after yourself, be ok with sitting in the sun not “achieving” anything. You’re being in the here and now, you are allowing your body to soak up those vitamins. You are allowing your body to rest, which let’s face it if you get a cold or even the virus, resting is the best cure. Allow yourself to be in the best place it can be so it can fight off any virus’ coming our way. ⁣

If you’re still struggling, set yourself a timetable - a routine, get up and go to bed at the same⁣
Time. Add in your daily exercise and plan around it. But don’t be too hard on yourself. ⁣

Some things you might want to try: ⁣
Meditation 🧘‍♀️ ⁣
Mindfulness ⁣
Reading that magazine you never got round to⁣
Reading a book 📖 ⁣
Listening to an album 🎶 ⁣
Do some colouring⁣
Watch a new or an old series/film⁣
Have a bath⁣
Light a candle ⁣
Find something you find relaxing⁣
Or even just sit, be in the here and now. ⁣

What are you doing to pass the time? ⁣

Tip 1-

Reduce the amount of time you spend watching/ reading the news. That means not looking at news apps also!

Timetable abit of time a day to keep updated but then leave it at that.

Start to train your brain to think about other things, do something uplifting after reading or watching the news . Or start a journal, write down how it made you feel.

Our first tip might be simple, but if is effective.

As always comment below with things you would like help with, or just to say hi!

We are all in this together after all!

So after a week of self-isolating (due to visiting a Spanish airport 🇪🇸 😅) I have to admit I am now feeling a little claustrophobic... it comes in waves. Last night we played board games and I totally forgot anything was going on... today I just feel a bit lost ! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s really important to talk to each other about how we are feeling and feel comfort in other people experiencing the same. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But what has really helped me this week is reminding myself to breathe. If you have small children who are experiencing the same as you.., let me know! I have written a few mindfulness exercises that you can do with your kids at this challenging time. ⁣⁣

It’s also really important that through your breathing, you’re bringing yourself back to the here and now.⁣
- Concentrate on the rising and falls of your chest and belly as you breathe. ⁣
-Making each breath slower. ⁣
-Making sure that when you start to drift to thoughts of the past and future 💭 you remind yourself that in the here and now is what you can control. So concentrate on that 😌⁣

The most important thing to recognise is that we are all in this together.

Over the next week I will be posting more on the subject, but for now. Find peace knowing that we are all in this together.

Happy pickers are happy to help in whatever way they can! So just drop us a message with any queries.

Protect the Pinewoods!

A walk in the woods can do wonders for our state of mind. In fact, time spent in leafy green spaces can reduce stress and increase our emotional wellbeing. Not to mention, trees are effectively the lungs of the Earth – they absorb carbon and produce oxygen, after all.

In Harrogate, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to natural beauty spots – but there’s somewhere particularly special to many of us: the Pinewoods. But 4 acres of trees from our lovely Rotary Wood are under threat, as Harrogate Spring Water want to expand their site.

If it goes ahead, this won’t just mean more water in plastic bottles (which our world really doesn’t need, whether recyclable or not). It could stop our town from becoming carbon neutral by 2038, the current aim in the Harrogate Carbon Reduction Strategy. So, please, please, PLEASE object by following the steps below...

1. Head to Harrogate Council Website using this link
2. Press the red Public Access Box
3. If you’ve used it before, just login – if not, register (it won’t take long)
4. Click “Search”, “Planning” and then “Simple Search”
5. Type in application no. 19/05245/DVCMAJ
6. Go to “Comments” and select Object!

Help keep Harrogate tidy and talk about mental health in a supportive environment on one of our litter picks! Our next one is on Sunday 29 March – and we’ll be exploring the link between money and our emotions. Meet at the Cenotaph at 10.40am.
