In case you’re worried that you wouldn’t be able to join in here’s a list of ailments that my students (and myself) are working with:

SI joint inflammation
Diastasis recti (separation of 6 pack muscles causing lower back and core weakness)
Pulled calf muscle
Sciatica
Knee injuries
Scoliosis
Hip injuries
Obviously I’m not going to name names, but I can tell you that the first 3 are me 😅

In yoga we don’t force our bodies into yoga poses, we make the pose work around our bodies.

I sound like a stuck record by now but Yoga is not about achieving the extreme poses, it’s about taking time to look after yourself.

This often means accepting limitations, for example I cannot do the pose pictured below (know as Camel pose) any more because my lower back and pelvis took quite a beating during my 3 pregnancies 😅
No worries, I’ll enjoy a more gentle backbend such as Sphinx pose Instead.

It’s November; it’s dark and cold and grey so you probably feel more sluggish and a little less motivated.

Lean into this if it feels right, these are the months for hibernation. You may wish to have a yoga practice which is much more focused on gentle stretches, breathing exercises and relaxation (often with some sort of thick blanket and a hot drink nearby).

The person in the first photo is not doing better Yoga than the person in the second photo, that is not what Yoga is about. A regular practice will increase your flexibility and strength, but these things are not needed to practice.
A Yoga practice is very personal and it respects that everyone is built differently. We don't force our bodies into poses, we make the pose work for our bodies.

We spend a bit of time sitting in our yoga and meditation practice. If you’re like me and find it uncomfortable to sit on the floor then you can use a block, a cushion or rolled blanket to elevate the hips. This tilts the pelvis forward slightly and takes pressure off the lower back. Simple. Of course you could also always sit on a chair if it’s easier.

Class is on tonight 7:30pm and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced yogis.
