Hello Lovely People! Just a little reminder, that I am on Maternity leave.
Maternity leave started a little sooner and abruptly to what I had originally planned, and for those patients I had to down needles for so quickly, thank you for being so understanding! Full explanation below..

Following on from my coming soon post at the end of September, I never thought that my baby would take it quite so literally! Just a week after that post, my waters broke prematurely at just 31 weeks! I managed to keep baby in for 3 more weeks, the most anxiety I’ve ever felt, and most of that time was spent spent toing and froing to hospital. He had to be born at exactly 34 weeks for his safety. Despite the extremely hard start with a 5 week hospital stay, my little boy Finn is doing amazing! My small but mighty miracle, pic for cuteness!
I will update when I have a date for going back to work. At this stage, i’m a little unsure and will depend on Finn and how we get on.

Some personal news, sharing with sensitivity and love. 🤍

I have been unbelievably quiet this year on social media, juggling work, motherhood and most importantly growing a human!

I am already in the third trimester in my pregnancy, so my Acu baby will be here soon and I am so grateful. After losses towards the end of last year, this pregnancy has been far from easy a lot of anxiety and blips along the way, which is why the late post!

For all those navigating trying to make a family, I see you. Sending so much love ✨

I will be going on maternity leave in November. Stepping away from my business again is hard. It’s never easy when you are self employed but a necessity in this chapter with my baby and young family. I will be recommending other acupuncturists in Harrogate to look after patients while I take a little time, but I will most certainly be back welcoming you all again.

That’s a wrap in clinic for 2024! What a year it’s been. My first full year back after maternity leave and in my new clinic home . I am so grateful for each and every patient and i’m so lucky to do what I do.

Trigger warning - Pregnancy loss, miscarriage 🤍

This is a post I have ummed and arred about posting, but it’s pregnancy and baby loss awareness week and the end of this week would have marked the end of my first trimester so it feels right to post and to normalise talking about loss, it is so important to do. We must reduce stigma and remove any parental notion of blame.

Working in women’s heath, fertility and in a pregnancy and wellness setting, loss is something I hear and see maybe more than your average person, but still, you never think or prepare for it to be you.

I had a miscarriage just a few weeks ago so this is still very raw. I know it wasn’t my fault or anything I did but naturally you second guess everything and torture yourself. I always want to be transparent that despite practicing what I preach, bad things can happen to any of us.

I have always been a practical ‘everything happens for a reason’ kind of girl, although I absolutely hate that saying and find it unbelievably unhelpful! BUT if I get some take aways from my experience, it is that I have even more empathy and can help my patients through the unknown, through loss, through anxiety after loss and becoming pregnant again. I know and can empathise the tortourous wait couples endure waiting for news whether thats through something like my experience of a missed miscarriage (i waited 3 weeks to be told there was no heartbeat), I understand, i’ve been you in some way or another.

Our experiences can only make us grow. Although of course a lesson I would rather have not had to learnt!

Why do you look at my tongue 👅?

I have to say this is the one thing that most patients get embarrassed about and it’s always a surprise to new patients who don’t know that I look at your tongue at the start of each session.
But what do I look for? 👇🏼

1️⃣ The body colour - this tells me the condition of the blood, Qi and yin organs.
2️⃣ The shape - this indicates the state of blood and nutritive Qi.
3️⃣ The coat - this indicates the state of yang organs and pathogens.
4️⃣ Moisture - This indicates the state of body fluids.
