First Forest School experience this morning with 🌿✨

The nearly 2-year-old was off exploring straight away—walking everywhere, tripping over a few tree roots (as you do 😂), and fully embracing it… mud and all. By the end, completely covered, which just shows how much fun was had (and I somehow ended up muddy too 🙈).

As a sleep consultant, I love seeing little ones get this kind of outdoor, active play—fresh air, freedom, and space to explore really does wonders for their sleep later on in the day ✨

Baby sister snoozed at the beginning, then woke up halfway for a little look around like “what did I miss?” 👀

Such a beautiful first experience ….calm, adventurous, and full of simple joy 💚 We’ll definitely be back, and I’d 100% recommend Born of the Forest to anyone thinking about Forest School! Thank you 🙏🏻

You may or may not have heard of a Norland Nanny, so let me tell you a little more about what that means.

I trained at Norland College nearly 30 years ago. It’s one of the most respected childcare colleges in the UK, known for its rigorous training and exceptionally high standards.

Norland nannies are professionally trained childcare specialists, with in-depth knowledge of newborn care, child development, routines and family support.

My training there shaped the foundation of everything I do today. It gave me lifelong friendships, wonderful memories and the privilege of working with some truly incredible families.

Now, as a mum of three, a Sleep Consultant and a Doula, I still carry those standards with me, combining experience, professionalism and a genuinely caring, family-centred approach.

The uniform may not come out very often anymore, but the values absolutely do. 🤎

My eldest just turned 19 and headed off to Canada three weeks ago. I always knew I’d miss him, but I honestly didn’t expect it to hit me this strongly.🥲

It’s a funny thing … I lead such a busy, hectic life, supporting families as a sleep consultant, doing some nannying, and raising my own children. Yet, every quiet moment, my thoughts drift straight to him ….wondering how he’s doing, what he’s up to. It’s such a strange feeling, I really do feel lost and sad, knowing I won’t see him for quite a while.

I now understand how hard it is for parents experiencing this. I never truly appreciated how my parents felt when I left home. Watching your child step into a new chapter, leaving home for university, work, or adventures around the world — is a mix of pride, love, and heartache all at once.

To all the parents navigating this new chapter in their lives: someone recently said to me, “When you’ve stopped feeling sad, make sure you take time to feel proud that you’ve raised a child who’s brave enough to go on an adventure around the world!” And when I do feel sad, I remember these kind words, and so should you .❤️

Back to sleep is always the starting point, but once babies get older and start rolling, they usually settle into the position that feels most comfortable, and sometimes that’s on their tummies. Once they can roll both ways, there’s not much you can do to stop them (and honestly, they wouldn’t let you!). Around this stage, babies typically have much better head and neck control, which helps them move themselves into a comfy spot.

Safe-sleep guidelines recommend keeping the cot clear, and I know many parents worry when their little ones start wriggling around and bumping into the sides. When families tell me they’re concerned about their little ones bashing into the side of the cot, we talk about the guidelines together. I would never recommend the flat, pillow-style cot bumpers, but these more structured, sturdy ones tend to hold their shape rather than collapsing inwards, which some families feel more comfortable with.

Every family is different, and these little rollers definitely have minds of their own once they can move. Do what feels comfortable for you and your baby!

✨ The Clocks Go Back next Weekend! ✨

When the clocks go ⏰ back one hour, your little one’s body clock might still think it’s bedtime an hour earlier — hello 5am wake-ups 😅

💤 To help them adjust:
1️⃣ Shift bedtime later by 10–15 mins each night.
2️⃣ Keep mornings dark and calm.
3️⃣ Stick to your usual bedtime routine.

A few small tweaks now will make the change feel easy and calm 💛

A perfect Friday, spent outdoors with this little one 🍂
No sunshine today, but we still had the best time exploring leaves, watching birds, and just taking in all the autumn things.
As a sleep consultant, I’ll always say — fresh air and nature do wonders for little bodies (and sleep!).
Grateful for these quiet moments and a cozy weekend ahead 🧡
