Great to catch up with the Complementary Therapy team this week and hear about the wonderful impact of their service for our haematology patients!
'Providing complementary therapy to our younger patients is particularly helpful for those who are anxious for their first chemotherapy, and having a massage helps them feel more at ease. Also the aroma sticks (sticks with personalised aromas or pre-blended oils) have had an enormous impact, in terms of positive distraction for those patients with needle phobias, or about to have bone marrow aspirates for example, and we have received excellent feedback on the difference they make'. 'The recent service for thalassaemia and sickle cell patients in the apheresis bay, is delivered by our volunteer, Tamao. This is supported by the apheresis nursing team who refer red cell patients for complementary therapy. We are so pleased to have this additional resource available to our red cell patients'. Victoria
'Long term patients really appreciate our service, as we provide time and space away from worry, observations, tests, and treatments. We have noted that even the most reserved of patients will break out in a smile when we arrive for a session! And thank you to HCC as we wouldn’t be able to do this without you!' Winnie
