Looking Back at National Gardening Day Across Minster Care Group ๐ฑ
Last month, our care homes celebrated National Gardening Day, and honestly? The seeds we planted that morning are still growing, in more ways than one. ๐ฑ
At The Lakes in Towcester, residents got their hands into our herb garden, trimming rosemary and tidying pathways across eight acres of grounds. The conversations that morning were something special. Stories of vegetable patches tended for decades, rose bushes inherited from parents, and the simple satisfaction of watching something you plant come to life. Since then, plans for our wildflower meadow have taken shape, and our residents are very much in charge of the design. ๐๐ฆ
At Eagle View in Scarborough, it took a creative approach. Residents filled pots with colourful artificial plants, regardless of the weather. a thoughtful way to brighten the garden. What started as an arranging activity turned into an afternoon of storytelling, gentle competition over colour choices, and the kind of shared laughter you cannot plan for. Those pots are still sitting proudly in our garden today. ๐
At Elm Lodge in Greenford, the morning was all about the senses. Rosemary, mint, lavender, and forget-me-nots were potted across our five households. The scent of crushed mint alone unlocked memories that surprised everyone in the room. One resident described a rose arch she built fifty years ago as though she were standing in front of it. ๐
We are sharing this now because these are not moments that belong to a single day on the calendar. They are part of how we care, every week, across every home. Gardening, creativity, reminiscence, sensory engagement. These are the things that keep our residents connected to who they have always been.
