Button End Beasts Raising rare breed pigs and sheep to produce great tasting meat. Our rare breed pigs and sheep are free ranging and mature slowly.

We run a smallholding of 31 acres, keeping a menagerie of animals and managing a number of haymeadows. The meat they produce is a true taste sensation! We also keep chickens, ducks and bees for our own amusement. Oh and then there are the dogs.......: )

We’re really missing our pigs so thought we’d share some early pictures. This is from 2010, the year we started keeping weaners to raise for meat. What a baptism of fire that was! A very cold, snowy and muddy winter followed!

Sadly, the pig keeping business of Button End Beasts has come to the end of the road. We woke up today feeling a little lost at not having to get up and feed our “starving” pigs their breakfast.

We thank everyone for their support over the years and especially last year when Bidwells tried to kick us off the land for no good reason other than one of their own wanted the tenanacy for her husband. With your support we got Jesus college to give us a stay of ex*****on. However, we can not live with the stress of short term tenancies governed by incompetent, arrogant and uncaring land agents and came to the difficult decision to move.

It will be a long road until we keep pigs again but I sincerely hope we will be back. In the meantime, over the next few weeks I will reflect on some of our fantastic, fun moments from the last 10+ years of smallholding. And of course, we still have our silly 🐑!

Goodbye Isla!

I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to Isla or even shed a tear when Rachel collected her today cos as fast as we put the escaped piglets in their pens they were out again. They did not want their mum to go! Then the sheep decided to load themselves into Rachel’s trailer. 🤦🏼‍♀️

She’s gone to a wonderful home in York.

Due to ongoing uncertainties with our rented land, we have decided that we won’t be breeeding for a few years. So sadly we are looking for new homes for our breeding stock. We have the gorgeous Isla and/or Harry looking for a new home. 🥰
