Welcome to the first edition of the Groombridge and Hartfield Medical Group Newsletter.
To introduce our very first issue, Dr Matt James has kindly written a short foreword, reflecting on the challenges and rewards of general practice.

We wanted to launch this quarterly newsletter to help make it easier for patients to keep up with what’s happening at the surgery, to highlight the many roles within our team, and to share useful updates from the NHS and local community.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on what you’d like included in future editions - if you have any feedback, suggestions or ideas, please email us at: sxicb-esx.thenooksurgery@nhs.net

Get Ready for Our 2025 Flu Clinics! 💉🍂

It may be the middle of summer, but our team is already busy behind the scenes preparing for this year's Saturday Flu Clinics at Hartfield Surgery, which we aim to begin at the start of October in line with NHS England guidance.

✅ Once vaccine deliveries and clinic dates are confirmed, eligible patients will be sent a text message with a booking link.

📱 Please ensure your contact details are up to date. You can update this through the NHS App or by calling the surgery.

When it's warm outside, you're at increased risk of dehydration. Dehydration means your body loses more fluids than you take in, children and older adults are more at risk.

Many of us don’t realise we’re dehydrated until symptoms hit -headaches, fatigue, dry skin and even dizziness.

• If you are feeling thirsty, you are starting to become
dehydrated.
• Take regular sips of water.
• Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these will promote
dehydration.
• Checking your urine is a good indicator - if it’s dark
or strong smelling, you need to drink more water.

More advice on staying safe during hot weather is available on the NHS website - www.nhs.uk/.../heatwave-how-to-cope-in-hot-weather/

Back in May, you might remember the team took a little time out to plant a few tomato plants at Hartfield Surgery. It’s fair to say we weren’t entirely confident they'd survive the elements... or us! But somehow, against all odds (and several weeks of neglect), they’ve thrived!

A few quiet moments in the courtyard have brought a bit of calm to some very busy days. If you're in Hartfield and fancy a tomato, you might just get lucky.
