🤝 A Bond Forged in Kindness

The Choctaw Nation and Ireland

In 1847, as famine and oppressive colonial policy devastated Ireland, members of the Choctaw Nation sent $170 for relief. The amount was modest, but extraordinary given the circumstances in which it was raised.

Only sixteen years earlier, the Choctaw had been forcibly removed from their homelands during the Trail of Tears. By the 1840s, their communities were still living with displacement and hardship. This was not an act of surplus, but of recognition - one community responding to the suffering of another.

The donation was recorded at the time and has remained part of the historical record.

In County Cork, the Kindred Spirits sculpture commemorates this moment. Its nine steel feathers reference the Choctaw tradition of gifting eagle feathers as symbols of respect and honour, marking a specific and remembered exchange.

Hi all. Some sad news to bring you about Bev, who was our receptionist when we had the York rd studio. A lot of you will have known Bev through visiting us for tattoos, piercings and therapies over the years and will remember the light hearted banter we had. We had still kept in touch and had only been messaging with her a few days before she passed. Sincere condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed.
