Last week the team at Start came together for Pool Together Week of Action and to commemorate the end of this years highly successful National Recovery Month.

Staff from Start and Recovery Connections Hartlepool comprising staff members, service users and members of the wider Recovery Community decided to volunteer to help one of our community partners, and friends of Recovery -

The team's came together to tidy the front, back and sides of the Hartlepool and District Indoor Bowls Club and the surrounding area. Ten bags of rubbish were removed from the site.

A big thank you to Hartlepool Big Town Tidy Up for loaning us the equipment, the team behind Pool Together - a fantastic community focussed initiative, Hartlepool and District Indoors Bowls Club for their continued support and to all those who volunteered their time to help.

Last week the 3rd Annual Celebration of Recovery Gig took place on hosted by the volunteers and trustees of the Studio and organised by Start and Recovery Connections.

The event had a great turnout once again and saw 4 acts playing on the night - Dan Rochford, Kyle Cullen and Matt "Scriptic" Kitching all played fantastic acoustic sets before the evening ended with DJ Statik. All 4 artists very generously volunteered their time to perform for which we are extremely grateful.

A special shout out to Kyle who has performed at all 3 Celebration of Recovery Gigs. A great time was had by all and the event has now become a much anticipated staple of the National Recovery Month celebrations each year. Food was very kindly provided by the catering van.

A big thank you to the trustees and volunteers at the Studio who, as ever, helped with the event and are true friends of Recovery. The 3 kind souls who manned the Fork in the Road van and ensured everyone was well fed, the performers on the evening and all those who attended to help celebrate a fantastic year in Recovery.

Last week our series of events for National Recovery Month continued with our Recovery Football Tournament!

Held at FC Hartlepool for the second year in a row, seven teams from across the region came together to celebrate Recovery and address the impact addiction has in our communities.

Teams that took part included , Kirklevington Prison, a social inclusion team from Newcastle and four teams from including two from Hartlepool!

Newcastle took home the trophy first 1st place, with one of the Hartlepool teams walking away as runners-up.

To add to the excitement, this year we were joined by Steve Howey, ex England, Newcastle and Hartlepool footballer who kindly joined us to present the trophies to the teams.

Events like this are vital to help break the stigma around addiction and start the conversation around recovery. Congratulations to all invovled and thanks to those who attended the event to support the players.
