I'd like you to imagine something- you have become obsessed with banjo music. Yes, crazy I know but go with it for the moment. You LOVE the themes to "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Deliverance" and you are OBSESSED with that downhome country vibe generated by banjo music. You would love to be able to pick up an instrument and play "Foggy mountain breakdown" like a good old boy {girl] but you don't even have a banjo so it will have to remain a dream for now, Then, out of the blue you get a lawyers letter telling you that your great-uncle Maurice has died and left you, yes,you guessed it- his valuable, much-loved Gibson "Mastertone" BANJO!!! All your dreams have come true, your ambitions are realised, happy days! Mind you, that was two years ago and that lovely instrument is still gathering dust on a shelf.You have now come to the conclusion that having the right tool for the job is not enough- you still have to actually learn how to USE it.So it is with Hypnotherapy- you will be given the ability, the technique, the knowledge to lose weight, stop smoking etc. but it is YOU who must apply it to change your life for the better. YOU must learn to play the banjo. Best wishes and "YEEE HA !!!"

If you feel unable to like yourself,how hard it will be to believe that others can like you too.You will not trust their judgement when they appear to desire your friendship but you "know" that you are just not worthy of their affection. Of course, there are naturally confident people out there but also many who lack self-esteem to a greater or lesser degree. We should focus on the good things in our lives and give ourselves credit for all our achievements, great or small. This helps to build a positive image of ourselves which, in turn, transmits itself to others. You are your own best friend so why not treat yourself occasionally to reward yourself for being a friend and congratulate yourself for being a worthwhile person.

You have probably noticed that life does not always go exactly as we planned it should and we sometimes feel that we have "failed" in some respect. Remember that life is a journey which has the same destination for all and it is up to us to make the trip as pleasant and meaningful as we can for ourselves and others. Instead of viewing certain situations as "failures", try to see what can be learned from them so that you can avoid repeating them in future. Better still, try to learn from the mistakes of others by observation and giving assistance when it is appropriate. Enjoy life and help others to enjoy it too. Progress and grow as a person,and,always remember, there are good times and there are lessons

Do you know yourself? I mean really KNOW yourself? There are three "yous" [and no, that doesn't mean your'e schizophrenic]. We all have an image of ourselves which we like to show to the world and ,to a greater or lesser degree, we all manipulate that public persona to show ourselves in the best possible light. Like those Russian dolls,which fit one inside another, we have another self-image which is the one which we like to believe we really are. It is smaller than the public image which we project but we can live with it "warts and all". However, inside that doll/self-image is the one which we REALLY are-the one which we dare not look at because it is far too painful, the real you, the jealous, selfish,lazy, faithless,idiotic,treacherous,cruel etc. etc. person you really are. Be assured, you are a human being and all of us have all the human attributes and failings in varying proportions. What we must do is to accentuate the positive side of our character and work on improving the negative. To do this we must first be brave and RECOGNISE the positive and negative sides of ourselves. How stressful it is to go through life carrying a massive public "doll", which we know is really not genuine, supported only by the" you" that you think you are which,in turn, is only held up by something even smaller and weaker [which you dare not even look at]. Try to ensure that all your "dolls" fit closely together and you will feel the benefit everyday and, in the process become a better,happier person.

Eating quickly releases "happy" chemicals into the brain which tend to overpower any message from the stomach. Eating slowly and concentrating only on your food [not T.V. etc.] ensures that messages from your stomach can be heard ["O.K.That's enough. We're pretty full down here now!] You will be fully aware that you have had enough food. Well done. You have just started listening to your body.Actually, you already listen to your body. I'm pretty sure you pay full attention when it needs to get rid of waste products.Why not give your body the same attention to what goes IN as what comes out? Eat slowly,enjoy every mouthful and stop when your stomach says "I'm full" A good tip for eating slowly is to use the knife and fork in the "wrong" hands.

We can view life as a river which we must all travel down. It is sometimes tranquil and slow flowing and sometimes there are rapids and rocks. Enjoy the calm stretches and always remember that when you hit the rapids, that thing in your hand is a paddle which can help you steer round the rocks and come through safely.Don't sit there thinking " Oh, God, this is disaster"- DO SOMETHING!!! Paddle like crazy, look where your going, be prepared to change direction if the situation demands it and you WILL come through into calmer waters.

So, another new year is with us and all the celebrations and optimism we feel at midnight on new years every year is just beginning to fade as the realisation that only the number of the year has changed and not much else. Same house ,same, job, same feelings that" I must stop smoking/take more exercise,/lose weight/ get fit/get into a relationship/get out of a relationship etc.etc. O.K. so ask yourself " If I keep doing exactly the same things I was doing before,will anything change? I think you probably know the answer. Decide what you need to do to make a change and DO IT!!!,
