Posted 🔹 Breaking the Cycle of Trauma: Our Visit to Musanze Prison, Rwanda 🔹
Together with Rwanda Correctional Systems and Good News Rwanda, we visited Musanze Prison, where healing is being woven into rehabilitation. The Peaceful Heart Network is working with the many layers of trauma inmates face—because before there was crime, there was pain.
For many, their journey into the justice system began long before their arrest. Self-medication, prostitution, theft—these are rarely first choices. They are the actions of a child who was failed somewhere along the way. This is trauma.
📍 Getting arrested is trauma.
📍 Being placed in prison is trauma.
📍 And if nothing changes, being released can become just another step in a cycle of trauma.
With lost years and a criminal record, reintegration into society becomes an uphill battle. But Rwanda’s correctional system is doing something different.
Here, inmates are learning to address their trauma with First Aid for Stress & Trauma (FAST). And the results? They don’t just tell us about it—they show us.
✨ They share testimonies.
✨ They have created songs and dances about Trauma Tapping.
✨ They perform a breathtaking 2.5-hour ceremony dedicated to healing.
We leave humbled, inspired, and in awe. This is not just criminal justice—it is justice.
Healing is possible. And peace begins inside. 💙
