To celebrate 5 years of our Be Well service, we're highlighting the positive impact it has had on many of our residents.

One strand of Be Well is Be Active. Be Active is our wellness and movement programme that supports residents to take care of their overall health.

At Cherry Trees in Redcar, Be active has been incorporated into many of the residents' daily lives. We spoke with two residents, Sue Mitchell and Maureen Russell, who share how Be Active has created a sense of community as the sessions have created a space for them to chat and get to know each other better.

Owning a pet is very important to many people and here at Anchor we are positive about residents keeping pets – not just cats and dogs but rabbits, hamsters, budgies, fish and even snakes as well.

However, all pets (including those being looked after by a resident for someone else) need to be approved before they can live or stay at any of our Anchor locations.

Our Be Well service offers residents a variety of initiatives and activities designed to support with their wellbeing. These vary from Be Active which focusses on leading an active lifestyle to Be Connected which helps foster connection between residents.

Be Well recently turned 5, and to start the celebrations, Lauren Smith, Resident Wellbeing Lead at Anchor, talks more about how the service has grown into what it is today.

In her blog she talks about how Be Well started as a simple idea to provide residents with the resources to take care of their wellbeing and the amazing things that have been achieved along the way.

International Day of Older Persons 2025 👵🏽👴🏾

Theme: “Full Ageing Rights for All”

Today, we celebrate the wisdom, resilience, and invaluable contributions of older people in our communities. From sharing life stories to shaping generations, older persons are the heart of our families and the backbone of our society.

This year’s theme reminds us that ageing is not just a natural process — it’s a human right to age with dignity, security, and inclusion.

Let’s continue to build a world where every older person is respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

💜 To all the older people we work with, care for, and love — thank you💜

🧠💜 World Alzheimer’s Day – September 21st 💜🧠

Today, we stand together to raise awareness, show support, and honour those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and all forms of dementia.

Alzheimer’s is more than memory loss — it’s a journey that impacts families, caregivers, and communities. On this day, we reflect on the importance of compassion, early diagnosis, and continued research to improve lives and find a cure.

Let’s break the stigma. Let’s talk about dementia. Let’s support those who care.

Whether you’re a caregiver, a loved one, or someone living with dementia — you are not alone. 💜

STAY HYDRATED

1. Drink Regularly, Don't Wait for Thirst: Thirst is a sign of mild dehydration, so it's best to drink fluids throughout the day before you feel thirsty.

2. Water is Generally Best: While other beverages can contribute to your fluid intake, water is often the best choice for staying hydrated, according to the American Heart Association.

3. Consider Electrolytes: If you're sweating heavily during exercise, you might want to consider sports drinks with electrolytes to replace those lost through sweat.

4. Eat Water-Rich Foods: Fruits and vegetables like watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, and lettuce are high in water content and can help contribute to your daily fluid intake.

5. Be Mindful of Your Environment: Hot weather or intense physical activity can increase your fluid needs, so drink more fluids in these situations.

6. Watch Your Urine Color: Clear or pale yellow urine is generally a sign of good hydration, while dark yellow urine indicates a need for more fluids.

7. Limit Sugary Drinks: Avoid excessive consumption of sugary drinks like soda, as they can contribute to dehydration in the long run.
