Bright Star ADHD Assessment

Bright Star ADHD Assessment Assessments, diagnosis and treatment plans. I am a registered ADHD Nurse Specialist and I have worked for the NHS for 14 years.

My work has varied from working with adults on acute medical wards, to working with children in School Nursing. At Bright Star we offer assessments, diagnosis and full treatment plans. A diagnosis will help you, and other people in your life, to understand your strengths and difficulties. It can be used by employers, under the Equality Act 2010, to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate you in the workplace, or at University. It can also help you to get disability allowance from the government. Assessments will involve a 3-hour face-to-face assessment in a friendly environment, or if preferred, via Zoom. Please call 07765637944 for a 15-minute free telephone consultation.

"A life-changing experience – thank you!!!

I recently had an ADHD assessment through this centre and cannot speak highly enough of the experience. From the very beginning, the practitioner was not only professional, compassionate, and incredibly understanding but also warm, perceptive, and deeply knowledgeable. I felt truly heard for the first time in years. She asked thoughtful questions, took the time to understand my experiences in detail, and helped me make sense of things I’ve struggled with my whole life. There was no judgment, just kindness and clarity.

The process was thorough but never overwhelming, and everything was explained with such care. What stood out most was how human the interaction felt – not just a clinical assessment, but a meaningful conversation that helped me connect the dots and feel hopeful.

If you’re considering an ADHD assessment and feel nervous or unsure, I genuinely recommend this place!"

How ADHD Medication Works

While medication isn’t a cure for ADHD, it can be life-changing for many people. It helps improve symptoms like:
- Difficulty focusing
- Emotional overwhelm
- Restlessness or impulsivity
- Low motivation and fatigue
- Mood instability

ADHD medications work by increasing levels of key brain chemicals like dopamine and noradrenaline, improving communication between brain cells and helping your mind feel calmer, more focused, and more manageable.

Women are historically underdiagnosed with ADHD, particularly those who present with the inattentive subtype. Instead of hyperactivity, their symptoms may look like:

☁ Chronic forgetfulness
☁Disorganisation
☁Emotional sensitivity
☁Difficulty focusing
☁ Low self-esteem
☁ People-pleasing or perfectionism

These traits are often masked, internalised, or explained away as anxiety, stress, or "just being bad at adulting." Many women go through school, university, careers, and motherhood feeling like they’re always one step behind - despite trying incredibly hard to keep up. Suspect ADHD? Every child is unique and so is the way they learn, focus, and respond to the world around them. You might have started to notice certain patterns:
- Your child seems easily distracted or forgetful
- They’re full of energy and always on the go or often seem distant or daydreamy
- Routines, schoolwork, or friendships feel like a daily struggle
- Their emotions can feel intense or hard to manage

These experiences can be challenging for them, and for you. But they don’t necessarily mean something is “wrong.” They may simply be signs that your child’s brain works a little differently.

At Bright Star ADHD, we’re here to help you explore these questions with understanding and care. Our child and teen ADHD assessments are designed to give you clear, professional insight and the support you need to move forward with confidence.
