✨ Wonderful Women of Hastings Court: Anne ✨
(This story has been shared with permission)
Loyalty, Courage and the Fight for Justice
Among the remarkable women of Hastings Court is Anne Wood, whose story is one of unwavering loyalty and determination.
Some years ago, one of Anne’s close friends was accused of a murder she did not commit. Despite protesting her innocence, Anne’s friend was convicted and spent four long years in prison. For many people, such a situation would feel overwhelming and hopeless — but Anne refused to accept that justice had been done.
Certain in her heart that her friend was incapable of such a crime, Anne became one of the key people who worked tirelessly to challenge the conviction. Alongside others who believed in her friend’s innocence, she dedicated countless hours to campaigning, gathering support and pushing for the truth to be heard.
Her efforts — driven by loyalty, courage and a steadfast belief in justice — played a vital role in keeping the case alive. What began as a terrible ordeal eventually grew into a story that captured national attention.
The case became such a sensation that it later inspired a book, and was even turned into a drama for ITV, bringing the extraordinary fight for justice to a much wider audience.
Anne’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one determined person can have. Through her loyalty to a friend and her refusal to give up, she helped shine a light on a miscarriage of justice and proved that sometimes the greatest acts of courage begin simply with believing in someone when others do not.
