Today is my daughter's 20th birthday. A decade ago she spent her 10th birthday in the shadow of the still-smouldering Hastings Pier fire. I had been up all night, watching from the White Rock Hotel while our beloved pier was eaten up by omnipotent flames. Inspirational idea from Helen Bevan, Chief Transformation Officer at the NHS. This is something we’re thinking about at Jericho Road Solutions for the ecosystem of organisations we work with on regeneration projects in Hastings, but also for the many people in our neighbourhood who can drive positive change. Particularly as we push forward with shared community projects like the Heritage Action Zone for the Trinity Triangle and The Hastings Commons.

Breaking News! Jericho Road Solutions is going to be running an informal competition at MSLs StreetsmART event in the Observer Building this weekend!
To enter:
· Simply leave your painted plywood board with their name and contact details (email and/or phone number on the back of it with the volunteers at the event, we will then get back to you if you’ve won within two weeks of the event.
What they win:
· Prizes, including £10 vouchers to the Source Skate Park, and free yoga class passes!! The top 8 winners will also have their artwork displayed on the hoarding outside the observer building for 2 months, at the end of this period it’ll be taken down and they can come and collect it to take home.

You and I and the other 95,000 Hastings inhabitants have no vote in the election that will happen tomorrow (17/2/20). Just 23 Labour councillors will choose the person who will lead our town for the next few years. Will we see puffs of white smoke coming from Muriel Matters House?! It bothers me that the character and loyalties of the individual chosen tomorrow will be so important. [ 225 more words ]

The decision to sell the former power station site at Ore Valley to a private developer rather than to Heart of Hastings community land trust is finally sinking in for me, a fortnight after it was announced. We're taking inspiration from community -led projects around the nation like the Onion Collective, the Library of Things, the Bevy, Repowering London and Transition Town..

This afternoon we'll be using our collective wisdom to work through our favourite bright ideas from the day to explore adapting them for Hastings

Jericho Road reinvests its profits into worthwhile projects in Hastings. Our latest project, the Observer Building, which we're redeveloping alongisde Meanwhile Space and Heart of Hastings, was opened for the first time to the public yesterday after 2 years!

We're opening the doors as proud partners of the fabulous Coastal Currents festival for a one-off exhibition of art works inspired by the past, present and future of the building: https://hastingsonlinetimes.co.uk/hot-topics/home-ground/observer-building-opens-its-doors

The exhibition will be open between 12-5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week.

If you love heritage buildings, you're curious about community-led regeneration or just want an update on where the project is at, do go down to take a look. Our team will be there to answer any questions. There will be a chance to share your aspirations or ideas for the building too via our architects, If Do.

There are several other free events happening in the neighbourhood on Saturday too - arts, culture, gardening and delicious food from neighbourhood kitchen Home Ground.

This is a really exciting project.
It came from thinking about how all towns need a pipeline of inspiration from elsewhere but also time for the hard work on the process of adaptation. That's what the Common Treasury of Adaptable Ideas is all about.
There are great things going on all over the place. We are bringing some inspiring people to talk about some of these. What comes out will depend on how people in Hastings react and choose to develop the ideas.

Contracts have been exchanged for the purchase of the Observer Building in Hastings. Completion is expected on Weds 13th Feb 2019. The new owner is White Rock Neighbourhood Ventures (WRNV) (*1), a community-rooted developer owned by three socially-driven organisations, with voluntary covenants in the Shareholders Agreement to retain capped rents in perpetuity. Sounds really dull! Why does this matter? The Observer Building is a symbol of early 1920s optimism: a great big beautiful strong proclamatory edifice built out of pride to tell the stories of the town. [ 817 more words ]
